Warren VFD responds to two separate fires Friday afternoon

WARREN TWP. -- Warren Township Volunteer Fire Department responded to two separate residential fires in Washington County Friday afternoon.
"It's not everyday you have two fires at once in the area," Fire Chief Mark Wile said. "I can't thank our fellow volunteers enough. Some left work to come help us."
Crews from the Warren, Barlow and Oak Grove VFDs were dispatched to 1392 Vickers Road at 12:51 p.m. It took 30 minutes to extinguish the blaze at the hilltop home Kristina Clatterbuck shared with her husband Corey and three children. She returned from an errand and saw her home on fire.
Wile said Clatterbuck told him the fire possibly started from the stove, which was located in the middle of the residence.
"I heard screaming and saw smoke. I called 911 and got her and the kids out of the smoke," neighbor Michelle Thornberry said.
Neighbor Janeann Delong said she was in her kitchen and saw smoke. She looked out and the trailer was ablaze.
"I called to her, and she said they were all out, but could not get the dogs," Delong said.
Wile said the Clatterbuck family had four dogs who perished in the fire.
Heat from the flames melted siding on the residence's garage, which stood in front of the trailer.
"It's never pleasant when we lose a structure," Wile said. "It was engulfed when we got there. We were able to save the garage."
Vickers Road is midway between Ohio 550 and Ohio 7.
A second structure fire was called in at 1:48 p.m on Ohio 550. Crews from Devola, Reno, and Oak Grove assisted Warren Township at the scene. Wile ordered the road temporarily closed while they worked to extinguish the fire.
Wile said the fire at Ohio 550 started in the basement. A resident saw smoke under the door, went upstairs and got themselves and two other residents out.
Wile said it took 15 minutes to put out the second fire and crews were able to contain the blaze to the basement.
The residents owned five cats and saved three from the fire.
"They looked barely alive," Wile said. "We gave them oxygen."
