Washington County Commission approves fund requests, hosts discussions at meeting

Washington County Commissioners approved fund requests at their regular meeting Thursday.
The County Commission appropriated additional funds in the amount of $341,066 for the Washington County Behavioral Health Board for expenses related to State Opioid and Stimulant Response 3.0 (SOS 3.0). SOS 3.0 is a grant program that supports funding for Ohio’s high-quality prevention, harm reduction, early intervention, treatment and recovery, according to the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services website.
The commission also approved $11,392.92 in additional funds for the Washington County Sheriff’s Office for the COPS grant to be used for personnel related expenses. COPS grant funds help increase the capacity of law enforcement agencies to implement community policing strategies, according to the U.S. Department of Justice website.
Commissioners approved $12,375 in additional funding for the Washington County Family & First Help Me Grow Fund for program support. Help Me Grow is a parent support program that encourages early prenatal and well-baby care and parenting education to promote the health and development of children, according to the Ohio Department of Health website.
Other business the commission addressed at the meeting included:
≤ Approved 38 Then & Now items, which are purchase orders that are more than $100.
≤ Voted to table a discussion of an engineering contact for a multimodal parking project with American Structure Point until they have had more time to review it. It will be discuss at their next regular meeting.
≤ Expressed their support for the The Washington County Sheriff’s Office wanting to apply for Violent Crime Reduction funding to install flock cameras at key intersections in the county. Commissioner John Booth said Flock cameras coordinate with law enforcement systems to recognize license plates and vehicles. “I applaud the sheriff’s department in being very proactive and being able to find offenders and keep our public safe,” Booth said.
≤ Appointed Sam Skinner to the Workforce Development Board.
≤ Approved a memorandum of understanding that extended the collective bargaining agreement between the Washington County Department of Job and Family Services and employees of Local Union 772 of the American Federation of State County and Municipal Employees for one year.
≤ Approved an agreement for Kings III of America, LLC to provide emergency phones in county elevators.
≤ Expressed their support of the Ohio House of Representative voting to override Gov. Mike DeWine’s veto of H.B. 68. The bill bans gender-affirming care for minors and prevents transgender athletes from playing on women’s sports teams.
The commissioners went into executive session for approximately 45 minutes to discuss real estate.
When they returned from executive session at 10:30 a.m. they adjourned the meeting without taking any actions on any matters discussed in the session.
