PARKERSBURG -- The Wood County Board of Education will hold a special meeting tonight to discuss the process for filling a board seat vacancy.
A release from the school district said board member Debbie Hendershot resigned from her seat Saturday to seek another elected position. It said under state code the board has 45 days to select an interim member to fill the vacancy.
Hendershot was elected to the board to serve her first four-year term in 2018 and was reelected in 2022. She serves on three committees, the Strategic Planning Committee, Stadium Facilities, and the Students Advisory Council.
The release said the board will meet in special session to accept Hendershot's resignation and to discuss the process for selecting an interim board member.
It said Wood County Schools has consulted with Joe Gonzales, Wood County Clerk and chief election official for Wood County, and he said the unexpired term will be up for election on the November ballot. According to the County Clerk's office, the deadline for write-in candidates is March 26, and the special filing period will be Aug. 5-20.
The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. today in the Jefferson Elementary Center auditorium.
The meeting is open to the public and will be streamed online.
