The Marietta Noon Lions Club is joining efforts to fight against pediatric cancer with a poker run fundraiser April 27 in downtown Marietta. Proceeds will benefit BrAva and the Ohio Lions Pediatric Cancer Foundation.
The Crawling for a Cure Poker Run will take place from 2-5:30 p.m. and begins in the lobby of The Lafayette Hotel. Tickets are $25 per person, which grants participants exclusive access to food and drink specials at six downtown establishments: The Riverfront Bar and Grill, Wilky's Sports Bar, 740 Social, Gator's Easy Wind Pub, The Town House, and Over the Moon Pub and Pizza. Participants may also purchase raffle tickets to win from among the six themed raffle baskets that will be stationed at each location.
Participants will also draw a playing card at each location, and the person with the best poker hand will win a specially crafted gift basket. The person with the worst poker hand will also win a prize.
Tickets are available online at the Marietta Noon Lions Facebook page, and may also be purchased at the event's registration table the day of the event.
Registration will take place from 1:30 to 3 p.m. in The Lafayette Hotel lobby. To win the poker run, participants must return to The Lafayette at 5:30 p.m. to turn in their hands. An afterparty will take place at the Riverfront Bar and Grill.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 15,000 children and adolescents under the age of 20 in the United States are diagnosed with cancer. Cancer is the number-one cause of death by disease in children and adolescents. Depending on the type of childhood cancer, survival rates in the United States can range from less than one percent to more than 90 percent.
