MOV Adult Education gets new home

PARKERSBURG – MOV Adult Education held an open house and ribbon cutting Wednesday to celebrate their move to St. Joseph’s Landing, according to a press release from the organization.

MOV Adult Education is located on the fifth floor, home of the Wood County SPOKES and Adult Education Coordination, and the six floor which houses the Wood County Adult Learning Center.

SPOKES is a ten-week program consisting of work-based academics, job preparation skills, and vocational training in the area of customer service under contract between the West Virginia Department of Education Office of Adult Education and Workforce Development and the Department of Human Services (DoHS) in collaboration with the Workforce Development Boards (WDBs).

The program provides classes with intense daily activities that address work-based academics; “soft skills” necessary for adults to pursue and retain gainful employment; and vocational training in customer service.

The release said Wood County Adult Learning Center offers many different opportunities to the adult learner at no cost. These opportunities include preparation for high school equivalency exams, preparation for entrance exams for post-secondary training, military service and employment, industry-recognized certificates and certifications, literacy level and English as a Second Language (ESL) classes, and basic and advanced computer classes.

The Wood County Adult Learning Center also offers a CSM online math course that can give hiring preference with West Virginia employers and be used as an entry-level math credit at all West Virginia community and technical colleges.

The release said all services are offered both in-person and through distance education.

The Wood County Adult Learning Center maintains a Facebook page that highlights all adult education offerings.
