WATERFORD — Waterford High School is celebrating its 2024 Homecoming the week of Sept. 30 to Oct. 4.
Homecoming activities for this year include spirit week: Monday–destination day, Tuesday–dress like staff, Wednesday–Adam Sandler day, Thursday–twin day, and Friday–spirit day.
Students participated in games during lunch: Monday-basketball, Tuesday-tug of war, Wednesday-volleyball, Thursday-four corner dodgeball, and Friday-ultimate frisbee. On Wednesday evening, there was Powder Puff volleyball in the Cooper gym at 6:30 p.m. followed by Powder Puff football on the field. On Friday, the band will kick off the pep rally at the high school and led the school to the gym where the cheerleaders, pep club and student council held a pep rally for the students and staff.
The Homecoming parade and crowning ceremony will be Friday at 6 p.m., followed by the kick-off at 7 p.m. as the Waterford Wildcats take on Southern.
The Homecoming dance theme is Clue Mystery and will be held at the Waterford High School gymnasium on Saturday from 7:30-10:30 p.m. with music provided by DJ Associates.
For the Homecoming Court:
*Freshman class attendant is Evie Susanne Pennock, the daughter of Rudy and Ashleigh Pennock. She has played volleyball for seven years and has been on a club volleyball team for four years. She is in Spanish Club, student council, key club and pep club. She enjoys playing volleyball, hanging out with her friends and family, and having fun. She also likes camping, shopping, and spending money. She will be escorted by Maddox Logan Antill, the son of Rusty and Misty Antill. He is on the football and wrestling teams and is a member of the track team. He has been in 4-H for 10 years and is in pep club, FFA and student council. He is on the Barlow Junior Fairboard and is Washington County Junior Fair Prince. He enjoys working on the family farm, helping his brothers with Farm Hunks and fixing things.
*Sophomore class attendant is Eva Marie Reed. She is the daughter of Shonda and stepfather Jason West. She has played volleyball and participated in choir for two years. She enjoys cooking and trying new recipes. She also likes to watch reality TV shows with her sister Olivia and going on long walks with her two dogs Charlie and Millie.
*Junior class attendant is Ella Mae Schweikert. She has played basketball and volleyball for two years and has participated in track and field for two years. She has been in Spanish Club for three years. She has been in key club and pep club for one year. She has been in the St. Bernard youth group for three years. She enjoys hanging out with friends and family, spending time outside, and making puzzles with Kate Valandingham. She is being escorted by Tim Phill Horgas. Horgas is from Germany where he has played soccer for 11 years and kickboxing for five years. He participated in cross country this year and plans to try track. He has played piano for nine years.
This year’s Queen and King candidates include:
*Hadley Jae Offenberger is the daughter of Greg and Debbi Offenberger. She has played volleyball for four years. She has been in Spanish Club and pep club for three years. She has been in FFA for one year and has been a teacher’s aide for four years. She is a legacy member of the Knights of the Round Table and owner of Snakey’s Bakery for a year. She has been mom and dad’s favorite for 18 years. She enjoys hanging with Ed and Ry, whipping it in the Vivi! She also enjoys hanging out with Missy in the library. She plans to attend a four year college and get her degree in criminal justice to pursue a career in law enforcement.
She is being escorted by King Candidate Colten Daniel Jones, son of Dan and Alecia Jones. He has played baseball for 13 years and has wrestled for 11 years. He has been in football for 10 years and 4-H for nine years. He has been in FFA for two years, ag for four years, and was class president for one year. He enjoys hunting and taking buggy rides with his family and Offenberger. He loves to spend time with his family and is open to anything they get into. He enjoys camping and spending time with friends partying. He is unsure as to his plans after high school but plans to have a wife and kids.
*Ryleigh Jo Rutter is the daughter of Savannah Meek and Jon Rutter. She has played volleyball, and club volleyball for four years. She has been a cheerleader for four years and participated in track and field for three years. She is pep club president and has been in key club for three years. She has been in yearbook for two years. She is a member of National Honor Society and Spanish National Honor Society. She enjoys driving around with friends, singing, eating Taco Bell with the girls, and cheering loud for teammates. She plans to attend cosmetology school and be a licensed hairstylist so her friends can continue to get free haircuts for a lifetime.
She is being escorted by King Candidate Josiah Andrew Ware, son of Andrew and Sarah Ware. He has played football for two years and basketball for two years. He has wrestled for two years and participated in track for two years. He has been in pep club and FFA for two years and been in student council for two years. He has been a class officer for two years. He enjoys working out, coaching flag football, as of last year, and late night Applebee runs. He also likes to watch the Cleveland Browns and hang out with friends. He plans to attend The Ohio State University and get his doctorate in veterinary medicine. After college, he would like to work in a zoo, specifically with large animals.
*Kendall Rachelle Sury is the daughter of Rob and Shelly Sury. She has played volleyball, and basketball for four years. She has run track for four years. She has been a student council member and class secretary for four years. She is a member of National Honor Society and Spanish National Honor Society. She has been a member of pep club, key club and yearbook for two years. She has been a teacher’s aide for a year and participated in the junior class play. She enjoys eating out with her friends and hanging out with her family, especially her nephews, Brycen and Bowen. She plans to attend a four year college to major in marketing and play collegiate basketball.
She is being escorted by King Candidate Jared Michael Heiss, son of Charlie and Rachel Heiss. He has been on the football and baseball teams for four years and has played basketball for three years. He has been in 4-H for 12 years. He has been in FFA and pep club for one year and has helped as a teacher’s aide for one year. He enjoys hanging out with family and friends and going to Applebee’s with the BBB. He plans to attend Ohio University to earn a business degree.
*Maya Jade Wilson is the daughter of Jason Wilson and Amanda Martin. She has played volleyball and softball for four years. She has participated in basketball cheer for two years. She has been in Spanish Club for three years and key club and pep club for one year. She is a member of National Honor Society and Spanish National Honor Society. She enjoys hanging out with friends and getting Qdoba. She will attend college to get her Master’s in Early Childhood Education.
She is being escorted by King Candidate Zavier Naaman Heiss, son of Naaman Heiss and Amy Coleman. He has played baseball for four years and football for three years. He has played basketball for one year. He has been in student council for four years and in pep club and Spanish Club for two years. He has been class president for three years. He is a member of National Honor Society. He has been a teacher’s aide for three years and yearbook for two years. He enjoys making his friends and family annoyed, watching sports, and hanging with the homies. He plans to go to college for education and become a 7th to 12th grade math teacher.
