The Humane Society of the Ohio Valley will present the Muskie Bucket String Band, and friends Moon Mullen & Sherm Koons, on Friday, Feb. 21, at 7:30 p.m. at the Lafayette Hotel.
All proceeds benefit the HSOV. Admission is a suggested donation of $10/person or a large bag of Purina Dog or Cat Chow. Tickets can be reserved by calling The Lafayette Hotel at 740-373-5522.
The Muskie Bucket String Band reaches deep into the hollows of traditional old-time music. Their sound draws from the well of fiddle tunes and ballads that have been passed down through the generations of Scots-Irish and African communities who settled Appalachia. To those familiar with the Mid-Ohio Valley’s music scene, some may recognize the Muskie Buckets as one-half of the valley’s own Oyo, featuring Aaron Martin’s virtuosic melodies on the fiddle and mandolin, Bobby Rosenstock’s rolling and flowing clawhammer banjo, and Drew Tanner providing the rumbling backbone of the Muskie Bucket sound on bass. The Muskie Bucket String Band’s stripped-down yet driving sound is equally at home on a front porch full of friends as it is in a packed pub where bottles are clinking and feet are dancing.
Moon Mullen and Sherm Koons will be joining in the fun as the opening act. Mullen and Koons were founding members of the Whipple Warblers and may brush off the musical cobwebs from several decades ago…who knows, maybe a square dance will break out!
All proceeds will benefit the Humane Society of the Ohio Valley.
