Following the indictment of former Disabled American Veterans Washington County Veterans Service Commissioner Ronald Hudson, the Washington County Veterans Service Commission (WCVSC) addressed the charges in a statement Friday.
On Sept. 6, 2023, Hudson was sworn in as the representative for the DAV on the Washington County Veterans Service Commission in Marietta. Hudson had previously established another branch of the DAV’s Veteran Mobility Project in Whipple.
Hudson’s charge stems from the alleged actions he took on March 1-May 21, 2024, to deprive the Washington County Veterans Mobility Project of $8,978.50, officials said.
According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, they received an anonymous letter that expressed concern over the management of funds for the Veterans Mobility Project. In the letter, Hudson was named as the person overseeing the project. The anonymous author went on to express their suspicion of several fundraising projects the organization had undertaken and that the veterans in the community had not seen any tangible benefits for their community.
In the statement from the WCVSC, they state that they wish to emphasize that the allegations involving Hudson are unrelated to WCVSC’s mission.
“No WCVSC’s funds were appropriated or dispersed to Mr. Hudson or the Washington County Veterans Mobility Project. Mr. Hudson as an individual Commissioner did not have sole appropriation or disbursement authority of WCVSC funds,” said the commission. “WCVSC operates under joint authority by the Board of Veterans Service Commissioners to appropriate and disburse funds, no one individual Commissioner operates under sole authority. Our commitment to financial integrity, operational transparency, and ethical practices remains intact and beyond question.”
The WCVSC also said they are not a party to Hudson’s legal proceedings and that any inquiries regarding the allegations or proceedings associated should be directed to Hudson and his legal representation.
In the statement, the WCVSC reiterated their mission statement: to serve and protect the veterans of Washington County.
“We are fully committed to providing resources, support, and guidance to those who have bravely served our nation,” the statement read. “This matter will not detract from our dedication to integrity, accountability, and the wellbeing of our Veteran community.”
