Belpre City Council talks road repair, changes to substance counciling services, water tank project

BELPRE — Belpre City Council received a report at its Monday meeting that the repaving work on Lee Street is completed.

The traffic lines will be painted as soon as weather permits. The city is working on its road grading inventory so it can get pricing on the next area it wants to focus on.

In other business, council approved the first reading of an ordinance for supplemental budget appropriations, the first reading of an ordinance extending the moratorium on new substance counseling services for another year and the first reading of an ordinance changing the lot yard and height requirements in commercial and manufacturing zones.

Council approved the second reading of an ordinance changing council’s meeting time.

In her report to council, Mayor Susan Abdella said the Music by the River concerts are in full swing. They have experienced a couple of rain delays but these events are up and running again. The rain delays have been rescheduled for Wednesday evenings

Abdella said the preconstruction meeting for the water tank project was held on July 3 and residents will begin seeing activity in the area.

Regarding golf carts, the city has had 17 people register their vehicles and get inspections. Abdella said she hopes all owners that intend to drive them on the roadways as described in the ordinance secures the appropriate permits and licensing. The fine for not licensing is $150.
