The Marietta Police Department will host its annual Policeman’s Picnic on Wednesday, Aug. 6, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Marietta Aquatic Center, offering local families a chance to meet officers, enjoy summer festivities, and win prizes.

Tickets for the event will be available starting at 7 a.m. July 30 at the Marietta Police Department, 301 Putnam St. The department is encouraging early pickup due to expected interest.

Sgt. Tyson Estes, one of the event’s organizers, said the picnic will include music, giveaways for kids of all ages–including water guns–and a bicycle raffle.

“We’ll have bikes to give away again this year, and every child will get something to take home,” he said.

In addition to the giveaways, attendees will have the opportunity to meet Marietta police officers and explore police cruisers. A police canine demonstration is also planned.

The picnic, traditionally held in the morning, was moved to the evening hours to better accommodate working families, said Estes.

“We found it was hard for a lot of parents to get off work, so now we’re doing it from six until nine,” Estes said.

The department is also welcoming donations of bicycles for the event. Local businesses or individuals interested in donating a bike can call the Marietta Police Department at 740-376-2007.

“We get some of the bikes donated by local businesses,” Estes said. “If we get one or two more people who can help, that’s perfect.”
