PARKERSBURG — A severe thunderstorm swept through Wood and Washington County on Thursday evening, resulting in power outages and high water in some areas.

In Wood County, there were reports of high water along Dupont Road heading out of the county and power lines down in several areas due to fallen trees, according to a dispatcher at the Wood County 911 Center.

In Washington County, a sheriff’s office dispatcher said they had not receive any calls as of 6:40 p.m. about any incidents related to the storm.

As of 7 p.m. on Thursday, MonPower projected that a total of 1,613 customers in Wood County were without power as a result of the storm. Service was projected to be restored around 9 p.m.

AEP Ohio reported that 99 customers lost power, with restoration estimated 10:30 p.m. Washington Electric Collective reported one outage occurred with two customers affected.

In Belpre, Mayor Susan Abdella said on Thursday evening that there were multiple streets in the city that flooded and the traffic light at the end of the Memorial Bridge stopped working. However, there were no power lines that she knew of that went down in Belpre.

“Everyone is on high alert and making sure they have water and everything else they need,” Abdella said.
