Washington County Sheriff’s Reports
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office released the following reports Feb. 26- March 15:
Feb. 26
¯ A lieutenant patrolling the area of Interstate 77 southbound near mile marker 3 observed a vehicle with West Virginia registration whose plate had expired in 2020. A traffic stop was initiated and the owner/driver was found to be Benjamin Long. Long advised he was unsure when he renewed his plates, then realized it was over four years ago. A citation was issued to Long, of Parkersburg, for expired registration.
Feb. 27
¯ A deputy began an investigation in Adams Township of misuse of credit card(s).
¯ Deputies were dispatched to Maze Road, Dunham Township, to a dispute between the caller/victim and Codey Maze. It was reported that the victim was trying to leave during an argument. Maze reportedly pushed her down on the bed and was trying to keep her from leaving. Maze then shoved her to the ground, causing her to hit her head. When he tried to pick her up, she bit him, causing Maze to shove her into the shower. Maze reported the victim caused her own injuries. Injury to Maze was also observed. Maze’s statements were inconsistent. The victim was provided medical attention. Codey Dallas Maze, 31, Belpre, was arrested and charged with assault.
¯ A captain observed a vehicle near Ohio 676 and Warren Chapel Road fail to stop at a visible stop sign. The driver was travelling at approximately 60 miles per hour and sped up to run the stop sign in order to get out in front of the captain’s vehicle. A traffic stop was conducted, and the juvenile driver acknowledged running the stop sign. A citation for failure to stop at a stop sign was issued.
Feb. 28
¯ A deputy began an investigation into a financial scam that occurred in Warren Township.
¯ Surveillance footage at the Washington County Jail revealed inmate Dusty Ferguson approaching the bed of an inmate who appeared to be sleeping. Ferguson begins speaking, and the inmate appears to roll over in his bed. Ferguson walks around the bed and begins striking the inmate with a closed fist several times. Ferguson places his arm around the inmate’s back holding him in place while continuing to strike him. Medical attention was given to the injured inmate. Dusty Lynn Ferguson, 37, 16920 State Route 550, Marietta, was charged with felonious assault, a second-degree felony.
¯ A deputy, along with the Warren Volunteer Fire/Squad, responded to an unresponsive individual in Warren Township.
¯ A deputy began an investigation in Warren Township regarding a financial scam involving over $23,000.
March 1
¯ A deputy placed Cody Joseph Brooker of Waterford under arrest on an outstanding warrant charging Brooker with obstructing official business and tampering with evidence from an incident on Jan. 5 in Salem Township.
March 2
¯ A deputy responded to 829 Main St., Belpre, in an attempt to serve an arrest warrant on Carolyn Spencer. Contact was made with Stephen Morris, who advised that he did not know who Spencer was and she was not present at the residence. The deputy observed a female through the window and Morris said she was his sister. Upon speaking with the woman, the deputy determined she was in fact Carolyn Spencer. Carolyn Marie Spencer, 38, was arrested on the outstanding warrant for probation violation. The deputy then filed for and was issued a warrant through Marietta Municipal Court for the arrest for Stephen Eugene Morris, 43, Belpre, on a charge of obstructing justice. A warrant was also requested for Spencer on a charge of obstructing justice.
¯ A deputy was travelling north on Putnam Street in Marietta at approximately 6:11 p.m. when he observed a black Volkswagen bearing Ohio registration also travelling north, then making a left turn travelling west on Third Street. The traffic control device displayed a red left turn arrow, forbidding the movement. A traffic stop was conducted, and Samuel Keith Tuten, 110 Robson Road, Marietta, was issued a citation for disobeying a traffic control device.
¯ A deputy began an investigation into a theft of tools in Waterford Township.
March 3
¯ A deputy responded to 32 Knob Drive, Dunham Township, to check the residence for a juvenile at the request of the Tyler County Sheriff’s Office. The deputy met with Landon Dearth, who advised the juvenile was in the residence. While speaking with the juvenile, it was advised that earlier in the day Dearth and the juvenile got into an argument over the juvenile wanting to leave. The juvenile stated Dearth had taken their phone and hid it, also pinning the juvenile against the wall. The deputy observed bruises on the juvenile’s arms. The juvenile also reported Dearth had choked them to the point where they couldn’t breathe and were “gasping for air.” No bruising to the neck was observed. Dearth said other bruising was from helping him carry boards and accidentally dropping them on the juvenile’s foot. Another bruise he stated was from where they fell off the bed. Landon Arthur Dearth, 19, was arrested on a charge of assault.
March 4
¯ A sergeant and a deputy responded to Barnett Ridge Road in Dunham Township, to a report of a juvenile being assaulted by James Edward Yoho during an argument at another location. Contact was made with the juvenile and guardian. The juvenile was arguing with the guardian, and then went into another room and shut the door. Yoho reportedly opened the door and told the juvenile that he needed to change his behavior and a physical altercation ensued. The juvenile stated he was headbutted by Yoho, causing bruising to the left side of his face, as well as a possible broken nose. Yoho was located and denied striking the juvenile. James Edward Yoho, 31, Parkersburg, was arrested on a charge of assault.
¯ A deputy responded to a possible burglary in progress in Marietta Township. Investigation determined the incident was not actually a burglary.
¯ A sergeant was dispatched to a possible trespassing complaint in Muskingum Township.
March 5
¯ While traveling west on Ohio 550 near Johnson Road in Warren Township, a deputy observed Chavazze Kidder, whose license the deputy knew was suspended, operating a red, two-door vehicle. A traffic stop was conducted, and Kidder, 635 Johnson Road, Marietta, was issued a citation for driving under suspension.
March 7
¯ A deputy recovered drugs/paraphernalia from a local business. The items were to be marked for destruction.
March 8
¯ Two deputies began an investigation into damage to vehicles in Warren Township. Both subjects signed a refusal to prosecute.
March 9
¯ A deputy began an investigation in Muskingum Township regarding stolen lottery tickets.
March 11
¯ A deputy completed a private property crash report where a vehicle struck another on the property of the Barlow Par Mar and left the area.
¯ A citation was issued to Robin L. Tyrell, 248 Wetzler Road, Lower Salem, for disobeying a traffic control device.
March 12
¯ In a domestic dispute complaint from an incident in Lawrence Township, Ryan Seevers was reported to have shoved the victim’s knees into her chest as she was sitting in a chair. Seevers also punched the wall near her head, causing her to believe he would strike her. The victim left the room to get away from Seevers, who followed her to the bathroom and held her against the back of the toilet. Ryan William Seevers, 28, Marietta, was placed under arrest and charged with domestic violence.

March 13
¯ A sergeant and the Warren Volunteer Fire Department squad responded to a business for a subject having medical issues.

March 14
¯ Deputies and the Lowell Adams Volunteer Fire Department squad conducted a welfare check, finding the subject had passed away.
¯ Deputies and the Beverly/Waterford squad conducted a welfare check, finding the subject had passed away.
March 15
¯ A deputy began an investigation into scams where the callers were requesting money for bond from an arrest warrant, using current judges’ and law enforcement officer’s names.
¯ A deputy was dispatched to Belpre Township to locate Quinton Ramirez, a fugitive from West Virginia. Quintin Avery William Ramirez, 33, Little Hocking, was arrested and charged with being a fugitive from justice.
¯ Information was obtained that Jonathan Angus was in a wooded area in Decatur Township, watching another subject’s residence. A verbal altercation ensued, with Angus reportedly advancing toward the subject with a glass bottle held as a weapon. The other individual retreated to his truck, and Angus then threw a brick at the vehicle, breaking the windshield. Jonathan P. Angus, 9531 Federal Road, Cutler, was arrested and charged with aggravated menacing. Later, Angus was taken for medical treatment, when he became belligerent and uncooperative toward the health care workers. He requested a drink from a nurse, took a few drinks and spit the water back onto her. A charge of assault was filed by the deputy against Angus.
