The turf field provides a better experience for the players and is designed to withstand extreme weather over time, according to a press release from Marietta College.

Marietta College has invested more than $2.6 million in various improvements for the campus over the course of the summer and fall.

The improvements focus on updates to the classrooms, athletic fields, the library, recreation centers and more.

“Marietta College has been a center for cultural, educational, and community spirit for nearly 200 years and our story is still being told,” said Interim President Kathleen Dougherty. “These projects are an investment in progress, in our future, and in the future of our students.”

A press release from the college said the cost of improvements are funded by donors who believe in the future of the students.

Upgrades are currently being made to the Marietta Field with the installation of a turf field. Athletic Director Larry Hiser said more time on the field supports the development of the athletes.

“Repetition leads to improvement and when you can play a little bit more, you can play a little bit better,” said Hiser in the release.

The artificial surface for the softball field came to a total of approximately $1 million in installation costs. The new turf will also improve the experience of future tournaments, games, and routine practices.

Beginning in June, the Rickey Science Center underwent extensive floor repairs and installation due to floors that were more than 60 years old. Vent hoods in the science labs were modified to result in a safer lab environment. Over $500,000 was put towards the repairs in the Rickey Science Center.

The floors in the main classroom of the Physician Assistant building were also replaced totaling around $20,000. The HVAC and roofing of the planetarium was updated over the summer along with the cooling tower in the Dyson Baudo Recreation Center which will begin upgrades in the fall.

Fenton Court was shaved down to reveal the bare wood underneath which was then refinished with the hope to last another decade, said Hiser in the release.

“The change in the floor brightens the entire facility,” he said.

One of the larger projects on campus is the transformation of the first floor of Legacy Library. The project, totaling around $1 million, will be the Milone Center for Academic and Career Success and will bring student services into one location. The project began earlier this summer and is expected to be completed in September, according to the release.

“The commitment and support of Marietta College alumni and friends is truly inspiring,” said Dougherty. “These investments are possible because donors have stepped forward to create a lasting legacy and we are grateful for their continued devotion to the college’s mission.”

These improvements have been completed over the summer with some projects still in progress and some expected to begin by the end of the year, according to the press release from Marietta College.
