EVE Inc. Hosts Annual Auction to Aid Domestic Violence and Assault Survivors

The Lafayette Hotel ballroom was filled Friday evening as EVE Inc. held its 43rd Annual Auction, the organization’s largest fundraiser to support survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking.

Jill Deming, president of the EVE board, said the event has become a cornerstone in sustaining the non-profit’s services.

“We do this every year, the third Friday in August, and all the proceeds go to sexual assault and domestic violence survivors, both female and male,” Deming said. “We usually raise at least $20,000, and that goes directly to programs and services because we need to supplement our grant funding.”

The event featured both a banquet and live auction, with proceeds benefiting the Marietta-based shelter and its outreach efforts across Washington County and beyond.

Molly Holden, executive director of EVE, said the organization provides a wide range of services.

“We do safe shelter for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking,” Holden said. “We help people replace vital documents, look for new housing, access therapy, and we also have a visitation center and legal advocacy so survivors don’t have to go to court alone.”

Holden said the group’s advocates work not only in Marietta but also in surrounding communities such as Parkersburg and Belpre, responding wherever survivors need assistance.

She added that community support for the auction sends an important message.

“I think it’s important that survivors see they are supported,” Holden said. “Domestic violence and sexual assault can feel hidden and stigmatized, so it’s refreshing to see people come together for a shelter that serves survivors.”

EVE also offers a 24-hour hotline and text line for those seeking help, 517-372-5572 and an online chat. More information can be found on the organization’s website, www.eveinc.org.
