BEVERLY — A group that has helped each other for 30 years is helping build an accessible home for a friend who had a stroke.
Nicknamed Hardly Able Construction, with the slogan “Nothing right, but the price,” the group is building the home in Beverly for Mike Heiss, who owned Heiss Hardwood.
Working from the concrete slab, the group started Aug. 9 and had much of the walls and roof completed in a day. They work on the home when they are off from their regular jobs.
Volunteers over the years learned construction, masonry, electrical, plumbing and cabinet making, among other trades. Their wives provide the food.
Among Hardly Able Construction volunteers on Saturday were Pat Huck, Rob Smith, Kevin Joyce, Scott and Dylan Hart, Dustin and Jeff Schilling, Tim McCoy, Andy Cooper, Dana Dietz, Brian Spindler, Brian Law, Alex Curry, Dean Lang, Nick Heiss and Rhett “Man” Heiss, Christy Litler, Susie Joyce, Carma Schilling, Tammy Farmer, Dorothy Huck, Dee Harper and Paula Lang. Huck is Heiss’ mother and Rhett is his grandson.
