MINERAL WELLS — A local activist group on Saturday took part in the nationwide Fight the Trump Takeover Day of Action to bring attention to the Republican attempt to change congressional districts in Texas ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
Indivisible MOV held the protest on the Interstate 77 Mineral Wells exit overpass. The redistricting is an attempt to keep the Republican majority in the House of Representatives in 2026, members said.
“We want to fight what is happening in Texas,” said Kim van Rijn, co-leader of the action team for Indivisible MOV of Parkersburg. “This is in support of the Democrats in Texas who walked out (to prevent this).”
Protesters held individual letter signs that spelled out “Fight the Trump Takeover” across the overpass at the 170 exit of I-77, facing southbound traffic.
“Today’s action is about expressing our disapproval of gerrymandering,” said Lori Flis, member of the Indivisible MOV Steering Committee, of Vienna. “It is wrong. It is the electorate choosing the voters and not the voters choosing the electorate.”

Protesters had various reasons for participating in the event.
“I’m a retired teacher,” Theresa Evans of Rockport said. “I am here to fight for my fellow teachers and the kids I had.”
A mother with her son, Bryce, said some Americans have lost their sense of humanity due to politics.
“We are not happy with the current administration,” said Natalie Enoch of Vienna. “Children are going to go without food this year, and we need to bring attention to it. There are a lot of things that are not acceptable. It’s important to get out here and try to bring humanity back to people.”
One protester called the gerrymandering of districts in Texas “a total power grab.
“It’s completely authoritarian. Absolutely insane. I completely agree with the Texas Democrats running away,” Aidan Eastman of Parkersburg said.
Another said he believes Trump is “a dictator.”
“I’m standing up for democracy, the Constitution, and the rule of law,” Tim Evans of Little Hocking said.
The next meeting of Indivisible MOV will take place at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 3 at the Gathering Place in Marietta. Another event is anticipated on Labor Day.
