Ohio State Highway Patrol Reports
The Ohio State Highway Patrol has released the following reports:
— Michael Lee Spires, 71, 11 Miller Lane, Caldwell, driving a 2003 Harley Davidson Electra Glide, was traveling northbound on Interstate 77 in Aurelius Township Aug. 18 when he hit a raised part of asphalt in a construction zone and overturned off the roadway. He had minor injuries, was treated by Salem Township EMS and was medically cleared. Spires was charged with failure to control.
— James A. Foulkes, 56, 817 37th St., Vienna, driving a 2008 GMC Sierra, was traveling east on U.S. 50 in Belpre Township Aug. 19 when his vehicle started to catch on fire. The incident happened after Foulkes turned on his defroster and a fire started in the wheel well. Foulkes and a passenger were uninjured, and no charges were listed.
— Nickalas A. Tewkesbury, 32, 3022 Veto Road, Vincent, driving a 2004 Honda CR-V, was traveling north on Ohio 339 in Dunham Township on Aug. 19 when he ran off the right side of the roadway and struck a mailbox. The incident occurred as Tewkesbury was looking for his lighter in the passenger side floor boards. Tewkesbury had no suspected injuries and was charged with driving in marked lanes, distracted driving, FRA suspension and fictitious plates.
— Amir J. Hatchett, 25, 1252 S. Taylor St., Philadelphia, driving a 2025 Freightliner Cascadia was traveling east on State Route 78 while Damon K. Smith, 64, 1778 Goshen Road, Rock Cave, W.Va., driving a 2009 Mack Pinnacle was traveling west on State Route 78 in Manchester Township on Aug. 20 when Hatchett traveled left of center and struck Smith. Smith continued off the left side of the road and struck a ditch. Hatchett and Smith had no injuries and Hatchett was charged with driving in marked lanes.
— Timothy L. Schenkel, 31, 14129 Dungannon Road, Beverly, driving a 2009 Chevy Cobalt, was traveling north on Ohio 7 in Marietta Township Aug. 21 when he drove off the right side of the roadway and struck a road sign. The incident occurred as Schenkel took his eyes off the road and was turning on the radio. Schenkel had no apparent injuries and was charged with speeding.
