COOLVILLE — One lane of a bridge in Coolville is open to traffic less a month after a culvert collapse rendered the span impassable.
The bridge crew for Ohio Department of Transportation District 10 installed a 72-inch reinforced concrete culvert to replace the one beneath Ohio 144 that failed on July 14 amid heavy rain, said Ashley Rittenhouse, the district’s public information officer.
“Getting the culvert replaced and the road reopened within a month of the failure required a team effort from multiple ODOT departments as well as the Village of Coolville,” Rittenhouse said. “We thank the public for their patience, and we’re proud of our team for all their hard work.”
The project has cost around $300,000, Rittenhouse said, but she noted that does not include ODOT labor and equipment, nor additional work that remains to be done.
Both lanes are expected to be open by Aug. 29, she said. Before that, pavement striping, guardrail installation, seeding/mulching and other tasks must be completed.
