The shallow waters of Newells Run, located along Ohio 7 between the Willow Island Lock and Dam and Newport, is a popular home to a variety of birds. It is a key spot for both resident birds and those migrating through the area.

Sunday a white great egret got a little too close to a great blue heron (top) when it decided to aggressively show its wingspan (above) causing the egret to vacate the area (left and below).

Those interested in bird watching in the area can do so from two roads that follow the edge of the water. Mud Lane and Newells Run Road can both be accessed from Ohio 7.
