City of Marietta continues to operate new street sweeper

The City of Marietta has been operating a new street sweeper since the spring.

At first glance the Ravo R5 sweeper is much smaller and more compact than the previous unit. The design enables the operator to take a shorter turning radius and to navigate narrower streets with ease.

While the sweeper is new, the message on the sides remains the same: “Clean Streets, Clean Water, Clean Streams.” The recently installed message by West Side Signs serves as a reminder that keeping streams clean begins on the land.

According to a press release from the City of Marietta, by sweeping streets it keeps stormwater runoff as clean as possible as it drains to Mill Creek, Goose Run, Clark Run, Duck Creek, the Muskingum River and the Ohio River. This improves the habitat for aquatic life, reduces ground water contamination, and provides cleaner water for all to enjoy while boating and fishing, according to the press release.

Funding for the wrap was made possible by a grant from the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy Foundation with support from Washington Soil and Water Conservation.

The Muskingum Watershed Conservancy Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit charitable organization dedicated to supporting the mission of the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District (MWCD) by providing financial resources that enhance facilities, programs, and conservation efforts on or adjacent to district lands and waters.

Starting at $2.99/week.
