PARKERSBURG — There was an additional police presence at Parkersburg High School on Monday following threats made over the weekend.

A release from Wood County Schools on Sunday said the district responded to a potential threat in regards to Parkersburg High School.

The release said on the evening of Saturday, Sept. 13, Wood County Schools received information regarding a potential threat directed at PHS for Monday, Sept. 15. In response, the release said the Wood County Sheriff’s Department acted swiftly and placed the two students alleged to be involved into custody on Sunday. It said the Wood County Prosecutor’s Office also responded decisively to the situation.

Wood County Schools Superintendent Christie Willis said Monday there was nothing more that could be released at this time regarding the incident.

“It is a student disciplinary matter,” she said. “The situation has been addressed.

“We had central office administrators at PHS (Monday) morning to greet students and the Parkersburg Police Department put additional officers out (Monday) morning just to make sure everyone was feeling safe.”

She again thanked the Wood County Sheriff’s Office and Wood County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for their work in addressing this situation.

“We greatly appreciate their support,” she said.

Wood County Prosecutor Pat Lefebure said Monday he could not comment on the situation at this time.

Wood County Schools Safety and Security Coordinator Jeremy Bell referred questions to Willis, but reiterated what she said about thanking officers for their response.

“I appreciated their time and working with everyone through this situation,” he said.

The release Sunday said Wood County Schools takes all safety concerns seriously and remains committed to maintaining a secure learning environment for all students and staff.
