Marine Corps Veterans Association hosting food drive on Saturday
The Marine Corps Veterans Association will host the Roy Trembly Annual Fall Food Drive this Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Walmart parking lot at 804 Pike St. in Marietta.
The food drive is in partnership with Walmart and will benefit the Gospel Mission of Marietta.
The Gospel Mission of Marietta is a non-profit organization that started in 2009. Its mission statement is to provide anyone in need with food and clothing that has been donated. The mission does not accept any assistance from distribution centers or programs.
Mid-Ohio Valley Platoon of the Marine Corps Veterans Association Commanding Officer Bryan Reeder said they don’t have a donation goal amount but all of the food and money raised will go directly to the Gospel Mission of Marietta.
“This will be our second year since naming the food drive after Roy Trembly and we’ve been hosting the drive for about five years now,” said Reeder.
Trembly served as a marine in the Vietnam War and received two Purple Hearts. The food drive was named after him in his honor.
“We’ll be set-up by the front doors of the Walmart,” said Reeder.
Vet Center Mental Health Services will be available at the food drive along with VA Healthcare enrollment opportunities and a free VA flu shot for all veterans.
Reeder said that other veteran organizations are invited to attend.
