Marietta College to host Education Visit Day, Energy Technical Exhibition

Marietta College will host a pair of events this week.

The Office of Admission at Marietta College will welcome aspiring teachers and education professionals to campus for Education Visit Day on Friday, Oct. 24, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

The event is designed to help young minds grow, offering prospective students and their families the opportunity to explore the campus and learn how Marietta’s education program prepares future educators to lead with purpose, inspire confidence and make a lasting impact in the classroom.

Sessions will highlight classroom experiences, student-teaching opportunities, and the College’s partnerships with regional schools. Throughout the day, attendees will have the chance to connect with current students and faculty, tour the Education Department, and sit in on a class to learn the art of teaching at MC. In addition to the slate of activities, guests will also enjoy a complimentary lunch in Gilman Dining Hall and receive Marietta merchandise.

Amanda Rider, chair of Marietta College’s Education Department, emphasized the importance of the event as a meaningful opportunity to connect with future educators and showcase the strength of the College’s education program.

“We aim to inform students and families about why our award-winning education program stands out among other programs in Ohio, ensuring that our graduates are prepared in all state-level initiatives,” Rider said.

Programs highlighted during the event will include the Mental Health First Aid Certificate, Marietta’s Teacher Leadership Certificate offered in conjunction with the McDonough Leadership Program and the Science of Reading Certificate.

“Our guests will have an opportunity to attend a freshman-level course, as well as speak with a panel of current and former students and local partnership teachers,” Rider said. “Prospective students will also meet all the Education Department members, who will speak directly to their specializations and areas of experience. Our goal is to pass along a passion for educating children in an ever-changing world.”

Marietta College’s education program is accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) and recognized by the Ohio Board of Regents as one of the state’s top teacher preparation programs. Marietta also boasts the nation’s only liberal arts-based Teacher Leadership Program for undergraduates and was named one of the top four education programs in Ohio by the Ohio Department of Higher Education. The program offers pathways to licensure in primary, middle childhood, secondary, wellness and special education, with opportunities for dual certification. In addition, Marietta College hosts a variety of academic camps and outreach programs each year, giving students valuable hands-on teaching experience while providing enriching educational opportunities for local youth.

Marietta College will also be hosting its annual Energy Technical Exhibition on Friday, Oct. 24, in the Dyson Baudo Recreation Center from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. This student-led exhibition promotes the future of energy innovation and provides students with direct access to learn from, network, and interact with industry professionals.

Formerly known as the Earth, Energy, and Environment (E3) Student Conference, the Energy Technical Exhibition brings together students and representatives from companies across the energy sector. Students from every major are encouraged to attend and explore career paths such as petroleum engineering and technical roles to business and finance, ask questions, and network with professionals. Attendees will also have the chance to view industry-standard equipment on display, as some participating companies will set up demonstrations, giving students a hands-on look at the tools and technologies used in the field.

The interactive, career-focused exhibition is student-organized, offering participants the chance to develop leadership skills, coordinate logistics, and engage directly with industry professionals-experience that sets Marietta College apart in workforce preparation.

Over the years, many companies have participated, providing students with valuable connections, knowledge, and insight. This year features organizations such as NexTier, Ulterra, Halliburton, Innovex, the Ohio Natural Energy Institute and many more.
