Prescription Drug Takeback day slated for Saturday

CHARLESTON — West Virginia First Foundation (WVFF) is encouraging people to participate in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, Oct. 25, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at locations across the state, in support of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and local law enforcement’s efforts.

For 16 years, DEA’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day has helped Americans safely dispose of unneeded medications–those that are old, unwanted, or expired–to prevent drug misuse and abuse.

“When each of us takes responsibility for safely disposing of medications, we take a meaningful step toward ending the cycle of addiction,” said Jonathan Board, WVFF Executive Director.

“Take Back Day is more than a reminder; it’s a movement toward a healthier West Virginia.”

Take Back Day is free and anonymous, with convenient drop-off sites across the state.

Accepted items include tablets, capsules, patches, and other solid forms of prescription medications. Liquids, such as cough syrup, should be sealed tightly in their original containers.

The collection sites cannot accept syringes, sharps, or illicit drugs.
