Marietta College expanding access to Military Bridges to Careers pathway

Marietta College is expanding access to its post-baccalaureate Military Bridges to Careers pathway, offering a limited number of eligible active-duty service members, veterans and military spouses the opportunity to earn an Ohio teaching license at no cost through funding from the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce's EmpowerVetEd grant.
The Military Bridges to Careers teaching pathway was developed to help address teacher shortages in Ohio and nationwide by providing military-connected students with a streamlined route to licensure. The pathway is designed for individuals who already hold a bachelor's degree and are enrolled in the post-baccalaureate program. The college is also exploring options for undergraduates who meet eligibility criteria and plan to pursue a degree that leads to a teaching license.
"The scholarship initiative reflects our deep belief in their potential to become effective educators," said Tanya Judd, director of Leadership Development and McCoy Professor of Education and Leadership Studies. "By removing financial barriers and offering a flexible, supportive pathway to licensure, we are proud to help veterans, active-duty service members, and their spouses transition into meaningful careers that continue their legacy of service -- this time, through education."
The program is delivered fully online and asynchronously, allowing students to complete coursework on their own schedules. Participants work with faculty mentors to select licensure content areas and grade levels, including grades 6-12 teaching and K-12 special education for students with mild to moderate needs. Mentorship also covers coursework planning and licensure requirements. Program completion leads to an Ohio teaching license, which can be transferred to most other states.
Applications are open for upcoming start dates. Tuition funding through the EmpowerVetEd grant is available on a first-come basis for eligible students.
The pathway typically includes 20 to 30 semester credit hours -- about eight to 10 courses -- depending on licensure area and previous coursework. Tuition is $495 per credit hour.
