Ohio State Highway Patrol Trooper Dalton J. Mershon has been selected as the 2025 Trooper of the Year at the Marietta Post.

Mershon, 22, was chosen by fellow officers at the post. The Patrol said the annual recognition considers leadership, professional ethics, courteous treatment of others, work attitude and service to the public.

By receiving the post-level honor, Mershon will now be considered for the District and State Trooper of the Year awards. Those selections will be announced later.

Mershon joined the Patrol in 2024 and has been assigned to the Marietta Post since graduating from the academy. Originally from Gallipolis, he is a graduate of Gallia Academy High School and attended the University of Rio Grande. This is his first Trooper of the Year recognition.

According to the Patrol, Mershon has been identified within the post and the broader Cambridge District as taking on leadership responsibilities and has received several commendations from citizens. He now resides in Marietta.
