Veterans Day is approaching on Nov. 11 and the Mid-Ohio Valley is honoring veterans with various upcoming events.
There will be a brick installation ceremony at noon on Saturday at the Marietta Armory located at 241 Front St.
Hosted by the Armory Square Inc., the biannual Veterans’ Walk of Honor Brick Placement Ceremony will feature bricks etched with the names of those who served as a way to recognize their service.
The ceremony will also include remarks from Washington County Veterans Services Commission Executive Director Darren Shearlock.
There is a website with direct access to the location of more than 5,000 engraved bricks. Families and members of the public can find the veteran’s brick by searching the name of the veteran on the website at https://armorysquaremariettaohio.com/ to locate a veteran at the Veterans Walk of Honor.
Saturday’s event invites the public to observe the brick installations.
The Parkersburg NCO Club is hosting a Flags for Heroes ceremony at noon Saturday to announce the names of nearly 100 veterans. The ceremony will be held on the front lawn of the National Guard Armory located at 1500 Blizzard Dr. across from Parkersburg South High School.
“We’ll be putting up the flags at 10 a.m. today,” said Dave Cyrus, a member of the Parkersburg NCO Club. “Then we’ll have a ceremony on Saturday when we announce all of the veterans’ names which can be located on a medallion on the flag.”
Cyrus said the public can honor a veteran by sponsoring a flag for $50 payable to the Parkersburg NCO Club.
“We’ll be announcing veterans from Mineral Wells, Vienna, Parkersburg, and all across the nation,” he said.
The flags will remain in the front lawn of the armory through Nov. 15 in honor of the veterans.
Cyrus wanted to thank all of the people and organizations who helped sponsor and help with the event.
In Vienna, a free spaghetti dinner for all veterans and their families will be held 3-6 p.m. Saturday in the fellowship hall of Christ Lutheran Church, 4513 Grand Central Ave.
The church is handicap accessible. For more information, call 304-482-2128 or email clcvienna@gmail.com.
