Wood County BOE to hear Vienna Elementary design presentation
PARKERSBURG — The Wood County Board of Education will hear a presentation Tuesday on the new Vienna Elementary design.
McKinley Architecture and Engineering Senior Architect Thomas Worlledge and Katie Wetherby, senior architectural staff/associate project manager, will present the board with designs created by the firm for the new elementary school that is being built on the former Ohio Valley University campus, now the new West Virginia University at Parkersburg Innovation and Technology Center.
The board will also consider approval of a job description for a new position within the central office.
During the board’s Oct. 28 meeting, Kaleb Lawrence, assistant superintendent of operations, spoke to the board about creating a director of safety and security position to help address growing duties.
Lawrence said responsibilities are handled largely by a single safety coordinator, Jeremy Bell, who is responsible for both front-line response and strategic planning.
“We just need a little bit of help. We’re a large county,” he told the board.
The money for the new position would come from levy funds and not the district’s general fund, Lawrence said.
Lawrence will also give the board an update on the bond projects going on throughout the district.
