WCCC names January Students of the Month

The Washington County Career Center honors its January Students of the Month, Lila Smith and Braxton Wolfe.

Smith is a Warren senior enrolled in the Medical College Prep program, and is the daughter of Eric and Deidre Smith of Amesville.

At the Career Center, Smith is a member of the SkillsUSA youth organization, national technical honor society, student council, and holds the office of president for her technical program. She has been on the principal list and honor roll. At Warren High School, Smith is active in varsity softball. In addition, she plays travel softball in the off-season. Academically, she has or will take college credit courses for English composition, introduction to nutrition, medical terminology, and statistics. In the medical college prep program, she is receiving a technical focus and learning skills for health science & technology, medical terminology, patient centered care, and principles of allied health medicine.

Smith has earned industry-recognized credentials and certifications for Automated External Defibrillator (AED), Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First Aid, Stop the Bleed, and Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).

Medical College Prep instructor, Denitra Hendershot, nominated Smith for this honor and commented, “Lila is an empathetic, professional, and dependable student who approaches every task with kindness and integrity. She excels in time management, balancing rigorous coursework, part-time employment, and athletics. Her peers and instructors respect her for her positive attitude, compassion, and commitment to excellence.”

Smith is currently employed at Highland Oaks Health Center, in McConnelsville, as a CNA. Upon graduation, she plans to attend Washington State College of Ohio to obtain an associate’s degree as a registered nurse then transfer to Ohio University for her bachelor’s degree.

Wolfe is a Frontier senior enrolled in the Electricity program, and is the son of Jeremy and Veronica Wolfe of Newport.

At the Career Center, Wolfe is a member of SkillsUSA and is consistently on the principal list or honor roll. He is taking course offerings and learning skills for commercial & industrial construction electrical systems, construction electrical systems, construction safety & crew leadership, and residential electrical systems. In his technical program, he has or will earn industry-recognized credentials for national center for construction education and research (NCCER) – Core & Level 1 and the occupational safety and health administration (OSHA) 10-hour training. Wolfe is a member of the Beavertown Church.

Mathematics instructor, Betsy Schramm, nominated Wolfe for this honor and commented, “Braxton works hard every day, never complains, and always thinks of others before himself.”

Wolfe plans to either enter the IBEW union as an apprentice to further his skills and career in the electrical field or attend the Career Center – Adult Technical Training Industrial and Electrical program to become further certified in order to obtain a position in one of our local industrial plants.
