Brandon Mercer new District Chair for Kootaga Distract
The Kootaga District of the Buckskin Council, Scouting America, has named Brandon Mercer as its new district chairman in a recent release.
The district chairman is the top volunteer leader in a Scouting district and is responsible for guiding the district committee in meeting annual goals. Mercer will work in partnership with Andrew Murphy, district executive, and Christopher Burk, district commissioner. The three make up the district’s “Key 3” leadership team.
Mercer has served as an assistant scoutmaster with Troop 91 since earning his Eagle Scout award in 2008. He later served as treasurer for Troop 91 and Pack 91 after earning his accounting degree.
“Of all the roles I’ve held in Scouting, the role as Eagle Scout coordinator is the one that brings me the most pride,” Mercer said. “This role tasks me with assisting Scouts with the process of completing their Eagle Scout project, designed to benefit the community they live in by showing the leadership skills they have learned in earning the Eagle rank. I look forward to continuing that process on a larger level as I help lead the Kootaga District.”
In addition to his Scouting roles, Mercer serves as vice president of finance for the Camp Kootaga Foundation. According to the release, the foundation’s mission is to “maintain and operate Camp Kootaga as a place for young people to develop leadership, character and a deep appreciation for the outdoors.”
A Belpre native, Mercer lives in Belpre with his wife, Audrey, and their two children, Jace and Nash.
The Kootaga District serves Scouts and volunteers in Wood, Jackson, Wirt, Roane, Ritchie and Calhoun counties in West Virginia, as well as the communities of Belpre, Little Hocking and Coolville in Ohio.
