The Peoples Bank Foundation donated $10,000 to EVE Incorporated, presenting the check at the downtown Marietta Peoples Bank branch on Tuesday.

EVE Executive Director Trina Rataiczak said the local support comes at a critical time, as the shelter faces delays and instability with federal and state grant dollars that make up the bulk of its budget.

EVE, a private, non-profit 501(c)3 organization, began in 1979 as a grassroots effort by area women and service providers to aid victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. In 1982, EVE began to provide emergency shelter to victims of family violence in a three-bedroom home. In 1994, EVE acquired a larger facility that allowed the organization to increase the number of victims it could shelter from nine to 30.

EVE’s programs include an emergency shelter, a 24-hour toll-free hotline, legal advocacy, service coordination, counseling, children’s programs, prevention programs, transitional housing and aftercare, a Survivor’s Loan program, a food pantry, educational groups, transportation and clothing, childcare, and referrals to community resources. EVE is one of only a few shelters equipped to shelter men as well as women. This includes adolescent boys who need to enter with an abused parent.

“EVE provides an essential lifeline for victims of family violence in Marietta, and supporting organizations like theirs is at the heart of what it means to be a true community partner,” Kevin Eagan, Peoples Bank Chief Marketing Officer and Peoples Bank Foundation Board Member, said. “Peoples Bank Foundation is proud to contribute to the important work they do.”
