PARKERSBURG — The sunny spring weather arrived right on time for the 16th annual Mid-Ohio Valley Easter Parade Saturday. After weeks of unpredictable, relentless cold weather, the sun shone high in the sky with hundreds in attendance at the parade along Market Street.
For roughly an hour, parade floats and vehicles travel down Market as people line the streets with their friends, families and those from around the community.
The theme for this year was “LEGOS: Building on Jesus.” Floats were adorned in staple LEGO brick colors like bright blues, yellows, and red with some larger floats constructed with the illusion of life-sized LEGO bricks.
Parade organizer Kiki Angelos said the city hasn’t had a parade day like Saturday in years.
“It was perfect, the weather turned out wonderful,” she said. “There were so many people out along the streets, it was packed.”

Angelos said there were close to 90 registered floats with a few that called off due to sickness but those spots were quickly filled.
“We had so many people at the parade and there were so many participants,” she said. “There were several hundred in the parade and the streets had several thousands watching.”
She wanted to thank all of the volunteers and members of the committee because the event ran smoothly with everyone doing their assigned duties.
“My goal with the theme was to reach a lot of churches and the floats were done so well for the theme,” said Angelos.
She said she was excited to see the Parkersburg High School girls basketball team join in the parade after their recent win.

“We try to make the parade bigger and better every year,” said Angelos. “It really takes a village.”
Vienna residents Margaret and Mike Morris planted their lawn chairs on Market Street and kicked back to enjoy the show.
“It’s probably our 10th year attending,” said Margaret. “We love seeing all the little kids and the floats.”
The couple said all of the floats this year were really creative.
There were appearances from city officials like Vienna Mayor Chad Emrick and Marietta Mayor Josh Schlicher who were tossing candy to kids along the sidewalks.

Parkersburg resident Tiffany Snyder said she was enjoying the day with her family and brought her kids out for the event.
“I moved away for about five years and I just moved back to the area a couple years ago so this is my first year back,” said Snyder. “It’s been a while.”
She said the LEGO-themed floats were really unique and she was glad to be attending the event.
There were floats from a variety of local churches along with performances from the Parkersburg South and Parkersburg High School Marching Bands during the parade.
Revelation Fellowship GMC’s pastor Cindy Eakle said she enjoyed seeing Revelation’s float during the parade. Located in Belpre, Revelation recently merged with Rockland Church.

“I’ve been attending the parade for as long as I can remember,” she said. “I love seeing all the kids out there going after the candy.”
The parade came to a close after the Easter bunny brought up the rear of the parade on the top of a firetruck.
Eakle said she enjoyed watching the parade because her kids have been in it over the years and soon her grandkids will be in it as well.
“I always enjoy it,” she said.
