Pulled pork/chicken sandwich dinner
VFW Post #5108 will hold a pulled pork/chicken sandwich dinner from 5-7 p.m. Friday at 319 Pike St., Marietta. A meal is $10 per person and includes your choice of a pulled pork or chicken sandwich, french fries and coleslaw. For more information or carry-out, call 740-374-9038.
Frontier Alumni Association 1969-1990 annual class reunion
The Frontier Alumni Association 1969-1990 will hold its annual class reunion at 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The reunion will be held at the American Legion, 718 Wooster St., Marietta. Friday evening will be a mixer-type evening with light snacks, soda, a cash bar and a DJ. Saturday evening will be a cash bar, a catered dinner and a band. The class of 1976 will be honored with this year being the 50th anniversary of graduating from FHS. Free concert
The public is invited to a free concert at 7 p.m. Friday in the Labyrinth area beside First Presbyterian Church, 501 Fourth St., Marietta. The Westminster Bells of First Presbyterian Church will be joined by the Cathedral Handbells from the Christ United Methodist Church. Bring a chair. In the event of inclement weather, the program will move indoors to Fellowship Hall.
Fearing House annual fundraiser
The Fearing House will hold its annual fundraiser yard sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday 131 Gilman Ave., Marietta. There will be hotdogs, sides and refreshments for $5. Drop off items on Tuesdays and Fridays, or call 740-538-2413 for someone to meet you at the Fearing House. Pick up is also available, if needed. The proceeds will go towards the restoration of the original 19th-century kitchen.
Ice cream social
Fearing Township Volunteer Fire Department will hold an Ice Cream Social at 4 p.m. Saturday 1975 Stanleyville Road, Whipple. A baked steak dinner will be served from 4-7 p.m. There will be a country store, bingo, queen crowning, kids’ games, yeti raffle and a quilt raffle. Drawings begin at 7:30 p.m.
Beverly/Fort Frye Alumni Banquet
The Beverly/Fort Frye Alumni Banquet will be Saturday at the Fort Frye High School Gymnasium. Social hour will begin at 5 p.m. and dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at local businesses in the area or you can email your information and the year you graduated with your maiden name to bffaa@fortfrye.org and send your check to PO Box 1313 Beverly, OH 45715. RSVP by June 1.
Jigsaw Puzzle Event
First Presbyterian Church, 501 Fourth St., Marietta, is inviting anyone who loves doing jigsaw puzzles to come and help put four different puzzles together from 2-5 p.m. Sunday. You may choose which one you want to work on. There is no charge but you are welcome to bring a snack to share. All ages are welcome to come and the church is handicap accessible. Enter through the church parking lot door.
WSCO Board of Trustees meeting
The Washington State College of Ohio Board of Trustees will hold its monthly meeting at 4 p.m. June 15, in room H108 of the Main Building.
Friends of the Library Used Book Pop-up Sale
From 9 a.m. to noon June 20, a “deep discount” pop-up used book sale featuring hardback books for 50 cents and 4 paperbacks for $1 will be sponsored by the Friends of the Washington County Library at the “Little Yellow House”, 617 Fifth St., Marietta.
Juneteenth Open House
The Farmers Castle Museum, operated by the Belpre Historical Society, will have an open house from 1-4 p.m. June 20, in recognition of Juneteenth. The Underground Railroad in Southeastern Ohio, a permanent exhibit that details the rise of the freedom movement along the Ohio River shoreline of Washington County in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, will be featured. Chicken and ham dinner
St. Bernard’s Catholic Church Parish will hold its June Social with a chicken and ham dinner from 4-7 p.m. June 24, at the social hall, 307 7th St., Beverly. An adult meal is $15 and a child meal is $6 for ages 10 and under. Take-out meals are available. A meal includes chicken, ham, side dishes, dessert and beverages. Children’s games and bingo begin at 5 p.m. A raffle is also being held for many items, including a large Ohio State University-themed quilt. Chicken barbecue dinner
The Graysville and Community Volunteer Fire Department, 38851 State Route 26, Graysville, will hold a chicken barbecue dinner at 4:30 p.m. June 27. The menu includes chicken, baked potatoes, green beans, coleslaw, rolls, desserts and drinks.
Samuel R. Cook Safetytown program
The Annual Samuel R. Cook Safetytown program will be held from June 15-25, at Phillips School, 300 Pike St., Marietta. This comprehensive nine day safety training program is available free of charge to all area children who will be 5 years old by August 1, or have just completed kindergarten but have not yet attended Safetytown. Professional teachers and well-trained instructors help children learn important safety concepts such as automobile and bicycle safety; water, electrical and chemical hazards; fire safety, pet safety and much more. Children may attend either the morning session from 9 a.m. to noon, or the afternoon session from 1-4 p.m. Applications are available at each local elementary school. Registration is also available online at the Marietta Rotary Club Facebook page. Questions may be directed to Kathi Carr at 740-374-6520. The application deadline is May 22.
