Washington County Career Center food programs policy
The Washington County Career Center continues the policy for providing meals to children served under the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program for the 2026-2027 school year. The Career Center qualifies to operate the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) allowing breakfast and lunch to be provided to all children at no charge and eliminates the collection of meal applications for free, reduced, and paid student meals. This approach reduces burdens for families and helps ensure that students receive nutritious meals.
Fish fry
VFW Post #5108 will hold a fish fry from 5-7 p.m. Friday at the Post Home, 319 Pike St., Marietta. A meal is $12 per person and includes fish, french fries, baked beans, coleslaw and rolls. Call 740-374-9038 for more information or for carry-out.
Steak fry
Beverly Sons of the American Legion Post 389 will hold a public steak fry from 5-8 p.m. Saturday at the Post Home, 114 Fifth St., Beverly. A meal includes steak, a baked potato, a salad bar and a roll. The band Retribution will perform following the steak fry.
92nd annual Renrock/Brookfield Township Homecoming Reunion
The 92nd annual Renrock/Brookfield Township Homecoming Reunion will be Sunday at the Brookfield Township Hall in Noble County, on Brookton Heights Road (Noble County Route 11), about two miles off Ohio 340, at Hiramsburg. A covered dish dinner will be at 1 p.m. Attendees are asked to bring a favorite dish to share. Paper plates, cups and plasticware will be furnished. Coffee, tea and some cold beverages will be provided. A brief meeting and program will follow. Organizers say attendees 'will enjoy visiting and getting reacquainted with old friends, and hopefully, meeting new ones,' and they ask attendees to bring pictures, family albums, memorabilia and stories to share. 'Please tell family and friends who may have lived in the area, or attended local churches, schools, and granges about our reunion,' they said. 'Hope to see you on the 27th.' Meet the Candidates
Meet the Candidates will be at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Marietta High School auditorium on Davis Avenue in Marietta. The candidates' forum is sponsored by Living Democracy: Engaging Citizens, a local nonpartisan group whose mission is to inform and educate citizens in the Mid-Ohio Valley about how our government and democracy work. Meet the Candidates will feature two Washington County Commissioner, Ohio House District 94 and US House of Representative District 2 positions. The audience will have an opportunity to ask questions of one or all the candidates.
Natural Resources Assistance Council committee meeting
The Fiscal Year 2027 (Round 21) committee meeting of the Natural Resources Assistance Council will be at 10 a.m. Oct. 8, at Buckeye Hills Regional Council, 2585 Glendale Road, Marietta. The purpose of this meeting is to review the Fiscal Year 2027 (Round 21) Clean Ohio applications for eligibility. Republican Party golf scramble
The Washington County Republican Party will hold its sixth annual golf scramble on Oct. 10 at Oxbow Golf Course. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. The fee for the four-person scramble is $300 and the package includes greens fee, cart, refreshments, snacks and a steak dinner. Fall/Holiday Craft Show
Gilman United Methodist Church, 312 Gilman Ave., Marietta, will be having their Fall/Holiday Craft Show from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 17, in the Fellowship Hall with lots of handmade items and a bake sale. Soup, sandwiches and a taco in a bag will be available for purchase.
Heritage Day Event
A Heritage Day Event honoring veterans and celebrating America 250 will be at 1 p.m. Oct. 17, at Twin City Opera House. The performance of a 50-minute play called The Wall: A Pilgrimage is sponsored by Opera House Players. A Chinese Auction will also take place during the festival and participants do not need to be present for the drawings. Winners may pick up items at the Opera House during the Sunday matinee.
Annual Turkey Supper
Fearing Township Volunteer Fire Department will hold its annual Turkey Supper at 4 p.m. Oct. 17, at 1975 Stanleyville Road, Whipple. A meal for adults is $12 and $6 for children and includes turkey or ham supper with mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, coffee or tea and a choice of dessert.
Dorothy Peppel Style Show and Salad Supper
The Pioneer Ladies Civitan will hold the Dorothy Peppel Style Show and Salad Supper at 6 p.m. Oct. 20, at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 308 Franklin St., Marietta. Doors open at 5 p.m., with admission being $15 per person. The event is sponsored by Peoples Insurance with fashions by Threadz Boutique and the Purse Auction by Williams Auctioneer. Door prizes will be drawn all night.
39th annual Halloween "at the Park"
The 39th annual Halloween "at the Park" will be at noon, Oct. 31, at the poultry building at the fairgrounds. There will be free food, treats and games. The event is sponsored by community civic groups such as Kiwanis, Marietta Civitan Club, Marietta Noon Lions, Marietta Rotary Clubs, Pioneer Ladies Civitan, Zonta Club, Little Caesars Pizza, City of Marietta, local merchants, area businesses, private donors and many volunteers.
GriefShare program
The GriefShare program will be from noon to 1:30 p.m. through Nov. 12, with a special program at 1:30 p.m. Nov. 19 called "Surviving the Holidays". This 13-week program will be offered at Gilman United Methodist Church, 312 Gilman Ave., Marietta. Each week, you will view a 30-minute video filled with helpful guidance, discuss grief-related issues, and gain personal recovery tips through your workbook. Zumba Classes
