On May 15, life-long Marietta resident Delbert Weber will turn 100 years old.
He was a twin (with his brother Albert) and lived through the Great Depression. That forged a life-style of self-reliance, hard work and frugality. He met and married the love of his life, his partner, Berneda, and enjoyed 74 years of togetherness before she passed. He joined the Army and served in WWII from D-Day +12 days at Normandy until the very end of WWII. He was a supply sergeant in Paton's Ghost Army and aided in the Battle of the Bulge. After the war, he returned home, had three sons and built a life of dignity, hard work and frugality and saving for the future.
Past interests include boating, gardening, biking, camping, traveling and card playing (especially Euchre). He retired as a transportation/shipping manager and wintered in Arizona and traveled the West for over 25 years. He spent significant time and energy maintaining and improving his home and managed to acquire skills in plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and painting. He is a self-made man and used his God-given talents the very best way he could.
Today he continues his walking exercise, participates in activities, plays Euchre, works puzzles, watches TV and enjoys an occasional happy hour.
He is a caring, self-made man, a true salt-of-the-earth who today enjoys a very proud family. This long life has blessed him with three sons, six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
