¯ A patrolman stopped a black Chevy Metro April 5 in the 500 block of Second Street for an expired plate. During the stop, the patrolman used his K-9 to perform a vehicle sniff for illegal narcotics. His K-9 indicated on the driver's door and during a search, the patrolman located a folded up $20 bill in the driver's wallet that contained a crystal-like substance. The patrolman seized the item and it is being sent to BCI for testing.
¯ A patrolman was dispatched April 5 to 608 Washington St. in regards to a stolen bicycle. A specialized mountain bike worth approximately $2,000 was stolen. The bicycle information was entered into LEADS as stolen. The stolen bicycle was later located by the owner and it was removed from LEADS.
¯ Units responded April 5 to a Marion Street residence for a domestic disturbance. Scott Shankland was arrested for domestic violence and was transported to the Washington County Jail.
¯ An officer was dispatched April 5 to Walmart in regards to a possible shoplifting. Upon arrival, the officer made contact with loss prevention, who advised the suspect shoplifted two items valued at $20.56. The suspect was confronted by loss prevention as they were leaving the store. They provided the stolen items back and fled the store. A summons will be requested for the suspect for theft.
¯ An officer met with Walmart loss prevention April 5 for a shoplifting complaint. After the investigation, it was learned that a suspect stole $55.18 worth of food merchandise by under scanning items. A summons will be issued to the suspect for theft.
¯ A patrolman responded April 5 to Walmart for a theft complaint. After the investigation, it was found that Cody Boling concealed $281.55 in merchandise. Boling was charged with theft and released on a personal recognizance bond.
¯ An officer stopped a vehicle April 6 for numerous moving violations. Upon checking with the occupants, it was learned that all were juveniles and had taken the vehicle without the owner's permission. All juveniles were released to their respective guardians. Charges for the unauthorized use of a motor vehicle will be requested through the juvenile court.
¯ Units were dispatched April 6 to Walmart for a theft report. Upon arrival, officers made contact with the female suspect who had under-scanned $32.48 worth of items. A summons will be requested through Marietta Municipal Court.
¯ An officer initiated an investigation April 7 into the suspected overdose death of 43-year-old Corey Singer.
¯ Patrolman responded April 7 to Rite Aid for the theft of shampoo and candy ($29.48). The suspect will be summoned into Marietta Municipal Court for one count of theft.
¯ An officer was dispatched April 7 to 804 Pike St. for looking for a stolen vehicle. The vehicle was located and officers attempted to stop the vehicle by activating overhead lights. Once officers activated the overhead lights, the vehicle took off at a high rate of speed through the main parking lot of Walmart, weaving between cars in an attempt to escape. The officer terminated the pursuit due to civilian safety concerns. The vehicle was later found and the operator, Charles Miller, was arrested by Ohio State Highway Patrol. He was charged with failure to comply with the order or signal of police officer.
¯ A patrolman initiated an investigation April 7 into telecommunications harassment involving juveniles.
¯ A patrolman was dispatched Friday to the BMV, 148 Gross St., in regards to someone breaking into the dumpster that is located behind the store.
¯ While conducting a follow up investigation Saturday at Walmart, an officer was alerted by an employee they just had two women steal. After the investigation, it was learned that two women stole $645.31 worth of clothing and household items. A summons for theft will be issued to both suspects.
¯ An officer was dispatched Saturday to Walmart for a theft. The officer was advised by Jacob Bills that he found an open package in the lawn and garden area. After reviewing the video, Bills observed what he believed to be a male juvenile open the package, conceal the item under his sweatshirt and leave the store.
¯ A patrolman initiated a traffic stop Saturday on a spray painted black/red Chevy truck for an equipment violation, along with observing the operator, Jeffery Theiss, driving with a suspended license. During the stop, criminal indicators were observed and a K-9 was requested. During a search of the vehicle, suspected methamphetamine and fentanyl were located behind the stereo. The items were seized and charges for possession of drugs are pending the results of chemical testing. Theiss was cited for driving under suspension and unsafe vehicle.
¯ A patrolman was dispatched Saturday to a Washington Street residence for an alleged domestic violence complaint. After the investigation, the woman refused to cooperate and wouldn't let officers inside the residence. The man voluntarily left for the night.
¯ Units observed a dark colored Mustang exit the Advance Auto parking lot Sunday at a high rate of speed, squealing its tires and driving recklessly. Both units attempted to catch up to the vehicle and a pursuit was initiated. The pursuit continued across the Putnam Street bridge and onto Franklin Street, where the Mustang failed to obey numerous traffic control devices. After turning onto Virginia Street, the Mustang nearly struck another vehicle and then continued onto Ohio 7, where speeds were in excess of 115 miles per hour. Officers terminated pursuit after losing sight of the vehicle as it continued to drive recklessly out Bender Road.
¯ An officer was dispatched Sunday to Walmart for a shoplifting complaint. Upon arrival, it was learned a total of $30 in merchandise was stolen by failing to scan. As a result, Joshua Lee Good Taylor was charged with theft.
¯ An officer stopped a vehicle for a stop sign violation Monday. A K-9 was requested and the officer, along with K-9 Grando, performed a free air sniff of the vehicle, which resulted in a positive indication on the driver's side door. A search of the driver's person yielded a small amount of suspected methamphetamine. Nothing else was located in the vehicle. The item was seized and will be sent to BCI for chemical analysis.
¯ A patrolman was dispatched Monday to the area of 630 Pearl St. Ext. for a dog running at large. The dog was taken to the humane society for safe keeping.
¯ A patrolman was dispatched Monday to Walmart for a shoplifter fleeing. The man concealed $10.06 worth of items and when confronted by loss prevention, fled the store. The suspect has been identified and charges are pending.
