Reports/Ohio State Highway Patrol
¯ Daniel Lee Moyer, 20, of 7345 Cox Koble Road, Gloucester, was traveling northbound June 4 on Township Road 77 in Homer Township when his 2003 Subaru Forester went off the right side of the roadway. The vehicle went into a ditch, overcorrected and went off the left side of the roadway and down an embankment. He was cited for operating a vehicle without being in reasonable control of it.
¯ Paul E. Fyfe, 51, of 5383 Johnson Ridge Road, Waterford, was northbound and William P. Perine, 20, of 3400 Rainbow Road, Lowell, was southbound June 4 on County Road 109 in Watertown Township. Fyfe’s 2020 Toyota Tacoma traveled left of center and struck Perine’s 2008 Mazda3 head on. After impact, Fyfe’s vehicle came to rest on the roadway and Perine’s vehicle came to rest off the west side of the roadway. Fyfe was cited for not driving on the right side of the roadway. Perine was taken by Health Net to Charleston Area Medical Center with suspected serious injuries.
¯ Cole D. Metz, 30, of 1005 30th St., Vienna, was eastbound June 5 in a parking lot on Ohio 339 in Belpre Township. The vehicle he was driving, a 2010 Dodge Ram owned by Jimmie Harper Construction of Vienna, struck a 2002 Toyota Tacoma owned by Bradley Schwendeman of 11980 State Route 676, Vincent, in the rear. After impact, Schwendeman’s vehicle struck a road sign.
¯ Thomas A. Dempsey, 64, of 206 Chamberlain Drive, Marietta, was eastbound June 5 on County Road 340 in Muskingum Township. His 2001 Suzuki VL1500 went off the right side of the roadway and overturned. He was cited for operating a vehicle without being in reasonable control of it.
¯ A two vehicle crash occurred June 7 on Ohio 339 in Belpre Township. Richard Jay Symes, 34, of 219 Liberty Ave., Fairmont, W.Va., and Olis D. Kerns, 80, of 712 Tuttle St., Belpre, were traveling southbound on Ohio 339. Symes slowed the vehicle he was driving, a 2021 Nissan Rogue owned by EAN Holdings LLC of Tulsa, Okla., while Kerns failed to maintain an assured clear distance ahead in his 2019 Ford Escape and struck Symes. Kerns was cited for not maintaining an assured clear distance ahead.
¯ Emily K. Hart, 80, of 200 Pennock Drive Lot 41, Beverly, was southbound June 7 on Ohio 339 in Watertown Township. She drove her 2009 Honda CR-V off the right side of the roadway and struck a ditch. She was cited for not driving in a single lane of traffic.
¯ Goldie M. Herbst, 70, of 941 E. State Route 60 NE, McConnelsville, was southbound June 7 on Ohio 83 in Bristol Township. Her 1978 Pontiac Firebird went left of center, off the left side of the roadway and struck an embankment. She then continued over the embankment. She was cited for operating a vehicle without being in reasonable control of it.
¯ Donald N. Barton, 68, of 104 Coal Run Hill Road, Coal Run, was northbound June 8 on Township Road 117 in Waterford Township when his 2009 Toyota Sienna went left of center, off the left side of the roadway and struck a utility pole. He was cited for operating a vehicle without being in reasonable control of it.
¯ A 2019 Toyota Yaris owned by Shaun Michael Ady of 50827 Malaga Alley, Malaga, was parked June 8 on the side of County Road 102 in Waterford Township. Martin Eric Cordray, 60, of 3180 Tieber Road, Stockport, was reversing southbound on County Road 102. Cordray improperly reversed his 2003 Chevrolet Silverado and struck Ady’s vehicle. Cordray was cited for backing without making sure it was reasonably safe.
¯ James F. Scisco, 70, of 188 Chelsea Ave., Long Branch, N.J., was eastbound June 9 crossing Ohio 377 in Chesterhill from a private drive to another private drive. Brooklyn D. Campbell, 25, of 57 E. State Route 266, Stockport, was northbound on Ohio 377. Scisco failed to yield on his 2020 BMW R 1250 GS from a private drive and struck Campbell’s 2014 Ford Focus on the left side. Scisco was cited for not yielding the right of way
¯ John I. Bennett, 74, of 4534 Pleasant Ridge Road, Marietta, was eastbound June 10 on Ohio 26 in Marietta Township. Kayla F. Waggy, 33, of 361 Spence Road, Belpre, was eastbound on Ohio 26. Bennett slowed his 2001 BMW 320I. Waggy failed to maintain an assured clear distance with her 2006 Chevrolet Silverado and struck Bennett’s vehicle. Waggy was cited for not maintaining an assured clear distance ahead.
¯ Melissa D. Wagner, 45, of 800 Oak Hill Road, Cutler, and Emily Diane Seaman, 38, of 10799 State Route 550, Vincent, were westbound June 12 on Ohio 550 in Barlow Township. Seaman’s 2021 Chevrolet Silverado lost its load and Wagner struck it with her 2014 Ford Focus. Seaman was cited for not securing the load in her vehicle.
¯ Grant Jeffrey McFarland, 24, of 4875 State Route 669, Malta, was southbound June 12 on County Road 2A in Bloom Township. He crossed the centerline in his 2007 Ford Ranger, went off the left side of the roadway and struck a fence and utility pole. He was cited for operating a vehicle without being in reasonable control of it.
¯ Dakota Ashton Smith, 20, of 8050 Green Road, Dresden, was traveling northbound June 13 on Ohio 60 in Muskingum Township when his 2002 Ford F-250 caught fire. No citations were issued.
¯ David M. Harr, 20, of 100 Lewis Point Drive, Vincent, was traveling southbound June 13 on Ohio 339 in Barlow Township. He was traveling on the paved berm when his 2021 HiBoy electric scooter overturned. He was separated from the scooter and struck the berm. No citations were issued.
¯ Taylor Colby Clark, 29, of 101 Summerset Drive, Marietta, and Susan Marie Lang, 43, of 320 Lang Farm Road, Marietta, were traveling southbound June 13 on Ohio 7. Lang stopped her 2011 Mitsubishi Endeavor in the traffic lane and was struck by Clark’s 2011 Nissan Juke. Clark was cited for not maintaining an assured clear distance ahead.
¯ Kenneth G. Roush, 65, of 614 ¢ Front St., Marietta, was traveling westbound June 14 on U.S. 50 in Belpre Township and struck a tree in the roadway with his 2014 Ford Focus. No citations were issued.
¯ Washington County Sheriff’s Deputy Ashley Wallace, 33, of 309 Fourth St., Marietta, was westbound June 16 on Ohio 7 in Marietta when her cruiser, a 2019 Ford Explorer, struck a piece of metal laying in the roadway. No citations were issued.
¯ Chandler E. Watson, 43, of 42495 Woods Road, Coolville, was northbound June 17 on Ohio 7 in Marietta Township. Jeffery A. Scott, 63, of 707 Second St., New Matamoras, was southbound on Ohio 7, making a left turn into a private drive in a 1999 Mack RD truck. Watson lost control of his 2011 Harley Davidson FLHX and overturned on the roadway. No citations were issued.
¯ Nicholas James Barton, 52, of 1421 Lancaster St. Apt. 101H, Marietta, was northbound June 18 on County Road 13 in Warren Township. He failed to negotiate a curve in his 2017 Hyundai Elantra, ran off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree. He was cited for operating a vehicle without being in reasonable control of it.
¯ Barbara J. Loftis, 62, of 700 Pearl Court, Smyrna, Tenn., was southbound June 21 and Larry J. Tipton II, 41, of 55 Fourth St., Roseville, was northbound on Ohio 555 in Union Township. Loftis’ 2021 Can-Am Spyder RT and Tipton’s 1979 Ford LT9000 made contact in the center of the roadway. No citations were issued.
¯ James E. Moon, 64, of 1230 Sandhill Road, Marietta, and Elizabeth Renee Collins, 28, of 1330 Elizabeth Pike, Mineral Wells, W.Va., were traveling westbound June 21 on Ohio 7 in Marietta Township. Collins attempted to change lanes in her 2013 Hyundai Sonata and struck Moon’s 2008 Toyota Corolla. Collins was cited for changing lanes before ascertaining that the movement could be made with reasonable safety.
¯ A patrolman was dispatched June 14 to the Lafayette Hotel, 101 Front St., in reference to a protection order violation. Upon arrival, the patrolman found James Warner intoxicated inside the hotel. He was found to be in violation of the protection order. As a result, James David Warner was arrested and taken to the Washington County Jail.
¯ A patrolman was dispatched June 15 to 605 Pearl St. in reference to criminal damaging. Officers made contact with the homeowner and found that a section of his fence had been damaged. The case remains under further investigation.
¯ A patrolman investigated the report of a female shoplifter June 15 at Walmart. The woman had switched bar codes on merchandise and went through the self-checkout. The recovered property was valued at $57.11. She will be summoned to court.
¯ Units were dispatched June 17 to Marietta Memorial Hospital in regards to a possible bomb threat. Contact was made with the head of the hospital staff who advised that an unknown individual made a call into MMH Employee Health and made a bomb threat. Bomb sniffing K-9s were brought in to search and clear the buildings. Nothing was found and the threat was found to be unfounded.
¯ An officer took a report from Amanda Alexander June 17 that someone had cut the catalytic converter off her husband’s truck as it was parked at Marietta Memorial Hospital.
¯ Units were dispatched Saturday to the Marathon gas station, 277 Muskingum Drive, in reference to a theft. Donna Jean Pugh was arrested for theft, a fifth-degree felony; misuse of a credit card, a first-degree misdemeanor; and tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony. She was released on a personal recognizance bond.
¯ Units responded Sunday to the 200 block of Virginia Street in reference to a possible disturbance. Upon arrival, officers found Nicholas Robertson having a mental health crisis. He was transported to Marietta Memorial Hospital for treatment. While at the hospital, he became irate and was arrested for disorderly conduct, cease and desist.
¯ Units were dispatched Sunday to a Greene Street residence in reference to a domestic violence complaint. Upon arrival and after the investigation, it was learned that Curtis Lewis was the primary aggressor. As a result, Curtis Michael Lewis was arrested and charged with domestic violence.
¯ An officer arrested Jennie Tranter on Sunday at 136 Franklin St. She had a warrant for her arrest through the State of West Virginia. She was also charged locally with a fugitive from justice.
¯ Units responded Sunday to 230 N. Seventh St. in reference to a possible overdose. A man was alert upon arrival. He was transported to Marietta Memorial Hospital for treatment.
¯ A patrolman was dispatched to Walmart on Sunday in reference to a disturbance complaint. Upon arrival and after the investigation, Richard L. Anderson and Courtney Clayton were arrested and charged with disorderly conduct cease and desist.
¯ Units responded Sunday to an Eighth Street residence in reference to a domestic violence complaint. After the investigation, Christopher Stevens was arrested for domestic violence.
¯ An officer was dispatched Monday to the Super 8 Motel regarding the report of a dead on arrival. Sanford West, 66, passed from natural causes and his body was released by the coroner.
