¯ A patrolman stopped a vehicle April 19 for having no illuminated headlights. During the stop, criminal indicators were observed and a K-9 was requested. A sniff of the vehicle yielded a positive indication and during a search of the vehicle, a small amount of suspected methamphetamine was located. Criminal charges are pending BCI lab results.
¯ A patrolman responded April 19 to 128 Front St. in reference to a theft complaint. It was learned that two women stole the victim's wallet containing a Visa card. The suspects used this card in various area businesses. The investigation is ongoing.
¯ The Marietta Police Department, along with the Marietta Fire Department, was dispatched April 19 to a fully involved structure fire at 213 Elm St. Upon arrival, officers cleared the apartment directly underneath the involved fire and got the resident inside to safety. The fire department arrived on scene and put the fire out. The investigation is being handled by the fire department.
¯ An officer was dispatched April 21 to 902 Phillips St. in reference to assisting with the towing of an evicted person's vehicle from private property. The vehicle was requested to be towed by the City of Marietta per the property owners. The vehicle was towed, impounded and secured.
¯ An officer was contacted April 20 by Marietta Elementary School Principal Schob in reference to a physical altercation that had occurred between an L&P teacher contracted out by the Marietta School District, and a student in her classroom. The investigation is ongoing.
¯ A patrolman was advised by a civilian April 21 that two windows appeared to be broken at the old Shoney's, 44 Acme St. Upon arrival, officers found two windows had been broken. The case remains under investigation.
¯ An officer was dispatched April 21 to the Marietta Police Department in reference to a telecommunication harassment complaint. Upon arrival, officers made contact with the complainant, who advised she had received multiple harassing calls and messages. A summons will be completed for the suspect to appear before the Marietta Municipal Court.
¯ A patrolman was dispatched April 21 to 604 Phillips St. in reference to a side window and side mirror being damaged by what appeared to be a BB gun fired at the vehicles. Through the investigation, it was found a neighboring juvenile had fired a BB gun and damaged both vehicles. Charges of criminal damaging and discharging a firearm will be sent to juvenile court.
¯ A patrolman was dispatched Saturday to the Super 8 Motel in reference to Dustin Riley being at this location with several active warrants. The patrolman observed Riley in the parking lot and observed him walking toward the front of the motel. The patrolman called Riley by name and asked him to stop. Riley jumped on his bicycle and took off toward Kroger. Riley then fled from officers behind the rear of Kroger. The patrolman advised Riley to stop, which he did. He was arrested on two warrants and was also found in possession of suspected methamphetamine.
¯ An officer stopped a vehicle for a moving violation Sunday. The operator had an expired license and during the stop, drug paraphernalia was found inside the vehicle. A search was conducted and a small amount of a white powdery substance was found on the operator's person. The item was seized and will be sent to BCI for chemical analysis.
¯ A patrolman was dispatched Sunday to Walmart in reference to a theft. A man wearing a gray shirt and blue jeans attempted to steal an item from Walmart. Once confronted, the man slapped the asset protection associate and then left the store. The subject got into a gray SUV that had red items on the roof and left the area. A report was taken.
¯ An officer conducted a traffic stop Sunday in the 700 block of Glendale after he observed James Tyler Morgan operating a vehicle. It was made known to officers prior to the stop that Morgan had an active warrant through the Marietta Police Department. Morgan was arrested for the active warrant. Suspected illegal substances were located and will be sent for additional testing.
¯ An officer was called to investigate a forgery at Wit and Whimzy, 152 Front St. Through the investigation, it was found that the account number on the check passed was fraudulent.
¯ A patrolman investigated the report of a male suspect, 55 to 60 years old, who entered Walgreens, put a large item in a cart and selected over the counter drugs valued at approximately $815. He hid it under the large item, then went to another part of the store and loaded the drugs into a shopping bag. He left the store without paying.

¯ A deputy was dispatched Friday to Rainbow View Drive, Muskingum Drive, to a report of a breaking and entering. The deputy met with the owners who advised the residence was being prepared to be rented. A vehicle had been seen at the residence, and the residence was checked finding the front door open and the basement door forced open. Tools were reported as being stolen from the residence. A check with dispatch revealed the owner of the vehicle observed at the residence.
It was learned that Bryce Stacy had purchased the vehicle and contact was made with Stacy. Stacy advised he had forced the door open, and that Ronald E. Blackstone was with him during this incident. He stated they hid a bucket of tools.
Deputies arrived at 3645 Blue Knob Road, Warren Township, on Sunday to continue the investigation involving this breaking and entering. Deputies met with Misty Caldwell, who stated she was the only one home. A person of interest in this case, Ronald Blackstone, was found to be living at this same residence.
Caldwell stated that Blackstone was not there, that he had walked off and went towards Ohio 7. Deputies began checking the area and was advised that Blackstone should be inside the residence. Caldwell eventually gave consent to search the residence for Blackstone, who was found in a bathroom.
Blackstone advised he left the residence and came back in through a back door. A summons is being requested for Misty L. Caldwell, 44, of 3645 Blue Knob Road, Marietta, on a charge of obstructing official business and tampering with evidence.
Blackstone confirmed he was with Stacy at the residence, stating it was wrong, and they shouldn't have been there. The tools were recovered from the location given by Blackstone. Ronald Eugene Blackstone, 39, of 3645 Blue Knob Road, Marietta, was placed under arrest and transported to the Washington County Jail, where he was charged with tampering with evidence, complicity to breaking and entering and receiving stolen property.
A warrant was requested for Bryce Michael Stacy, 23, of 941 Nicolette Road, Parkersburg, on a charge of breaking and entering and theft. The warrant was issued and Stacy was arrested in Wood County.
¯ Charles Day Jr. reported Sunday that he was being threatened with a knife on Mount Tom Road, Marietta Township. Day advised he was attacked with a knife.
The subject stated that Day started an argument with him and another individual. Day moved towards the subject in an aggressive manner, and also threatened to kill him. Due to Day's behavior, the individual grabbed a knife to protect himself, but did not threaten Day.
Day later returned with a garden hoe. An odor of burnt marijuana was detected when deputies were meeting with Day, with him stating he smoked marijuana while standing in the driveway.
Several drug paraphernalia items could be seen laying on the ground by Day. Marijuana was located in a plastic bag weighing 4.98 grams, and another weighing 0.3 grams.
Charles Edwin Day Jr., 38, was placed under arrest and charged with aggravated menacing, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of marijuana.
¯ A deputy began an investigation Monday in Dunham Township regarding a catalytic converter theft.
¯ A sergeant responded to Williamson Avenue Monday in reference to a domestic violence incident which occurred on April 16 in Grandview Township. It was reported that Tony Pethtel was abusing a juvenile child at the complainant's residence.
Pethtel and the child were engaged in a verbal argument which turned physical once Pethtel pushed the child, then struck him/her 15 times. Tony L Pethtel, age unknown, of New Matamoras, was placed under arrest and charged with domestic violence.
¯ A deputy was on patrol Monday in Belpre Township when he observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. The speed was confirmed at 102 mph in a posted 60 mph zone. A traffic stop was initiated and the driver was identified as Tommy Lee Farmer. A check of his driver's license revealed it expired in 2018. Farmer, 62, of 2105 I 7 NE, Washington, DC, was issued a citation for reckless operation, speeding and no operator's license.
¯ A deputy was on patrol Monday in Belpre Township when observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. The speed was confirmed at 81 mph in a posted 60 mph zone. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver, Gerard Anthony Krzic, 69, of 9 Marietta Ave., Athens, was issued a citation for speed.
Arrests/Washington County
The following individuals were recently processed into the Washington County Jail:
¯ Thomas Matthew Pearison, 35, of Belpre, was arrested for possession of drugs, a felony, illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia, and driving under suspension, fictitious plates, all misdemeanors.
¯ Jason Robert Sokolowski, 36, of Rochester Hills, Mich., was arrested for fugitive from justice, a misdemeanor.
