¯ A patrolman was dispatched May 10 to the Marietta Police Department in reference to a counterfeit check. The investigation showed that counterfeit checks have been created on a business account.
¯ An officer was dispatched May 10 to the Marietta Police Department in reference to a theft report. Upon arrival, officers made contact with city employees who advised of a theft from a job site. This case remains under investigation.
¯ An officer was dispatched May 10 to Walmart in reference to a theft report. Officers made contact with loss prevention and the suspect. The suspect was found to have under-scanned $240.78 worth of items in her cart. A procedure code for summons will be completed for the suspect to appear for a theft charge.
¯ A patrolman responded May 11 to Walmart in reference to a theft complaint. After the investigation, it was learned the suspect failed to scan $27.84 worth of food and over-the-counter medication. The patrolman will request a summons be issued to the suspect for theft.
¯ A patrolman responded May 11 to GoMart in reference to a male subject shoplifting numerous items. This case is under investigation.
¯ An officer oversaw the towing of a damaged vehicle parked on the sidewalk in front of 504 Phillips St. Friday. The vehicle was towed under the MPD parking bureau protocol.
¯ Units responded Friday to a Hillcrest Drive address in reference to a 51-year-old woman's death. After the investigation, the death appears to be of natural causes.
¯ An officer was dispatched Friday to Walmart in reference to a male shoplifter. Dustin Wade Shook was arrested for theft ($104.44) and was found to have an active warrant through Monroe County Court. He was taken to the Washington County Jail and held until his court date.
¯ A patrolman responded Saturday to the 400 block of Muskingum Drive in reference to a male caller who believed he was being followed by gang members on motorcycles. The caller was found to be in possession of suspected methamphetamine.
¯ A complainant alleged his vehicle was entered and a court ordered ignition interlock device was stolen, along with a phone charging cord. A patrolman initiated an investigation Sunday, which is ongoing.
¯ Units responded Monday to the 700 block of Colegate Drive in reference to a green and black Charger driving recklessly. Units located the vehicle on Chestnut Street. The owner of the vehicle was talked to in reference to the incident.
¯ A patrolman stopped Monday to check on a suspicious person in the alley behind Kroger. While speaking with the subject, he admitted that he had syringes and narcotics on his person. The suspected narcotics were seized and a BCI submission sheet was completed to test and identify both items.

¯ A deputy was dispatched Saturday to 38710 State Route 7, Newport Township, to a report of a man being unresponsive in a vehicle at the gas pumps. The man was later identified as Taylor Merckle. EMS was on the scene checking the subject prior to the deputy arriving.
The deputy observed what appeared to be drug paraphernalia in the vehicle in plain sight. Merckle was advised his vehicle would be searched due to drug paraphernalia being located. Multiple empty baggies and foil with drug residue, and individual baggies of suspected drugs were located. Merckle stated the suspected drugs were heroin.
Taylor Adam Merckle, 27, of 170 Fred Smith Road, New Matamoras, was placed under arrest and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of drugs. Merckle was transported to the Washington County Jail.
¯ Deputies became aware Saturday that James E. Gilles may be in possession of a firearm and discharging same in the area of Watertown Township. Gilles had previously been convicted of a felony offense, which makes it a crime for him to possess firearms. Deputies responded to Watertown Township and confirmed the validity of the information.
Gilles, 34, of 150 Watertown Road, Waterford, was placed under arrest and charged with six counts of weapons under disability, and transported to the Washington County Jail.
¯ A deputy was dispatched Monday to Salem Township to a report of Edwin Hart assaulting an individual at that location. Deputies were advised that Hart forced his way into a residence and struck an individual in the home as he proceeded through the residence.
After completing the investigation, Edwin Hart arrived at the Washington County Sheriff's Office where he was placed under arrest, charged with assault and burglary. Edwin Claude Hart, 33, of 200 Mechanics St., Macksburg, was transported to the Washington County Jail for processing.
