Reports/Ohio State Highway Patrol
¯ Adam William Arnold, 31, of 20545 State Route 676, Marietta, and Mark A. Warden, 56, of 309 Fourth St., Marietta, were traveling westbound May 23 on Ohio 550 in Barlow Township. Warden slowed for traffic in the roadway, while Arnold failed to maintain assured clear distance ahead in his 2016 Ram 1500, striking the vehicle Warden was driving, a 2014 Ford Explorer owned by the Washington County Sheriff's Office. Arnold was cited for not maintaining an assured clear distance ahead.
¯ William S. Root, 56, of 830 Morris Drive, Cutler, was northbound May 23 on Ohio 555 in Belpre Township. Ruth E. Brown, 80, of 145 Baker Road, Little Hocking, was westbound on Township Road 506. Brown attempted to turn left onto Ohio 555 southbound in her 2013 GMC Terrain. She failed to yield to a stop sign, striking Root's 2010 Ford F-150. Brown was cited for not yielding the right of way at a stop sign.
¯ Joann Felter, 58, of 1395 Kinderhook Road, Newport, was southbound May 24 on Ohio 7 in Newport Township. Richard Clyde Wison, 46, of 6672 Clay Road, Spencer, W.Va., was eastbound on Ohio 807, turning left onto Ohio 7 northbound. Wison failed to yield the right of way in his 2000 Ford F-250, striking Felter's 2019 Kia Sorento. Wison was cited for not yielding the right of way at a stop light.
¯ James D. Gessel, 60, of 107 1/2 Hanson Drive, Marietta, was southbound May 28 on Ohio 821 in Fearing Township when his 2003 Ford F-150 veered off the right side of the roadway, striking a ditch, three road signs and an embankment. He was cited for operating a vehicle without being in reasonable control of it.
¯ A two vehicle crash occurred May 31 on Ohio 60 in Adams Township. Eli C. Clark, 35, of 506 McDonald Road, Waterford, and Lance E. Huck, 46, of 4893 Muskingum River Road, Lowell, were northbound on Ohio 60. Clark slowed to make a right turn onto Township Road 48. Huck failed to maintain an assured clear distance ahead in his 2007 Cadillac CTS and struck Clark's 2021 Jeep Renegade. Clark then veered off to the right side of the roadway before overturning. Huck was cited for not maintaining an assured clear distance ahead.
¯ Jonathan W. Thomas, 50, of 1204 County House Lane Apt. B, Marietta, and Ethan Brian Wells, 21, of 8188 Stanleyville Road, Whipple, were stopped at the traffic light on County Road 344 in Marietta Township Wednesday. Thomas backed his 2014 Jeep Cherokee into Wells' 2011 Acura MDX. Thomas was cited for backing his vehicle before making sure it could be done with reasonable safety.

¯ A deputy began an investigation May 26 at Marathon Gas, Little Hocking, in reference to 30 gallons of diesel fuel being taken out of a subject's semi-truck.
¯ Contact was made May 26 with Travis J. Eue outside a store in Beverly. An active arrest warrant was on file for Eue on a charge of parole violation. He was asked if someone could come and pick up the vehicle he had been operating, in which he advised he did not have a car, even though the lieutenant observed Eue in a Subaru parked nearby.
Eue advised no. Upon inventorying the vehicle, a small piece of plastic grocery bag, which was tied and the corner torn off was located. Also located in close vicinity were several pieces of crystalline substance, suspected of being methamphetamine. A large quantity was located in an open storage compartment of the vehicle.
Travis James Eue, 38, of 207 Florence St., Belpre, was arrested on the outstanding APA warrant, and has also been charged with drug possession.
¯ A deputy began an investigation May 27 into a stolen license plate from a pick up truck in Belpre Township.
¯ A deputy located a vehicle May 27 in the roadway on Hocking Road at Grant Avenue. The driver was identified as Cody R. Slaughter, who had an active warrant, which was confirmed, out of Belmont County.
Slaughter was arrested on the warrant and transported to the Washington County Jail, and turned over to the jail staff for processing. The deputy was checking the rear seat of the sheriff's vehicle and located a cellophane wrapper with an unknown blue substance inside. Contact was made with Slaughter and he was asked what the substance was in the cellophane to which he replied "Xanny", stating he had the wrapper in his mouth and was going to swallow it but didn't. Slaughter stated he had no prescription for Xanax.
Cody R. Slaughter, 32, of 1323 12th St., Vienna, was charged with tampering with evidence.
¯ A deputy filed charges Monday for being a fugitive from justice on Daren Earl Moore,165 Pam Road, New Matamoras. Moore had been arrested by the Ohio State Highway Patrol on a warrant from the State of West Virginia, and processed into the Washington County Jail.

¯ Larry Gene Joy, 59, of Lowell, was arrested for loose dog and junk vehicle, all misdemeanors.
¯ James Ellis Shaffer, 37, of Millfield, was arrested for possession of drugs, a felony.
