First Congregational
The observance of Holy Week at First Congregational Church, Marietta, includes the following services:
Palm Sunday, March 25, worship begins with a Palm Parade. Everyone present will have palms to wave and take home. This service commemorates Jesus' entrance into Jerusalem just days before the Crucifixion.
Maundy Thursday, March 29 – Members and friends of the church will gather at 5:30 p.m. for a soup supper sponsored by the Church Council. Worshipers will adjourn to the sanctuary for the 7 p.m. service "Office of the Tenebrae" – literally meaning 'darkness.' Hymns are sung and readings recall the events of Jesus' last hours. One by one, dozens of candles are extinguished -eventually leaving the sanctuary in darkness. Holy Communion will be celebrated in silence during the service. All worshipers are welcome to receive the Sacrament.
Good Friday, March 30 – Come and be a part of the ecumenical Walk of Christian Witness. The walk begins at St. Luke's Episcopal Church at 320 Second St. at noon. First Congregational Church 318 Frond St. is the second stop. At approximately 1 p.m. the Walk proceeds to Christ United Methodist Church, 301 Wooster. About 2 p.m. we will proceed to First Presbyterian Church, Fourth and Wooster. Just about 2:40 we will join the congregation of The Bascilica of St. Mary of the Assumption where we will witness the annual pantomime of the Stations of the Cross.
Participants in the Walk will take turns carrying the large wooden cross to each stop along the way. You do not have to be a member of one of the participating congregations to take part in the walk, and you may join at any stop.
Easter Sunday, April 1- Celebration of the Resurrection. Join the congregations of First Presbyterian and First Congregational at 7 a.m. in the garden of the First Presbyterian Church We will sing, celebrate and watch the world awaken to the Easter Sunrise. Musician for the service is Scott Hobson. The service includes a brief message followed by Holy Communion. In the case of inclement weather, the service will be moved indoors.
Following the early service all are invited to gather in the church fellowship hall for a potluck breakfast. Beverages and paper goods provided.
At 10 a.m. the Resurrection celebration continues at First Congregational with special music, congregational singing and the Easter message "Now What?" presented by Rev. Linda Steelman.

A re-enactment of the Lord's Supper and Jesus' arrest.
Come and experience these final hours before Jesus was arrested and partake at the Lord's Table.

"Celebrating the Resurrection of our Lord":
Easter is the most important celebration of the Christian year. It is the heart of our Christian faith. On Easter, we celebrate, for even death could not hold Jesus in the tomb. He lives! And because he lives, he gives up the power to live both eternally and abundantly. There is no news greater than this!
Come as we celebration and witness Jesus' resurrection and the power he give us to live.
