Gale R. Remely died peacefully of natural causes on March 31, 2016, at the Springfield Memorial Hospital, under the care of Community Mercy Hospice.
He was born June 13, 1924 in Frost, Ohio to Lloyd and Inez Remely.
Gale was raised in Cutler and attended high school in Bartlett, Ohio where he met his wife of 70 years, Ramona Remely. Upon high school graduation Gale was drafted into the United States Navy where he was trained as a pilot and attended Virginia Tech University. He was a World War II Veteran. After the war Gale returned to Ohio where he worked for the Ohio Gas Company and Battelle Memorial Institute. He subsequently became a State Farm Insurance agent in Columbus, Ohio and worked his business for nearly 40 years. After retiring from State Farm Insurance, he and Ramona split their residence between Columbus, Ohio and Leesburg, Fla. where they enjoyed boating, square dancing, Disney World and a multitude of friends. Gale and Ramona had recently moved to The Springfield Masonic Home. Gale became a Mason at the age of 21 and served for his many years in several Masonic organizations including The Linden Chapter #236, The York Council #115, The Columbus Commandery #69, The Aladdin Shrine and The Scottish Rite. He recently received a 70 Year Membership Award from The Grand Lodge of Ohio. In addition, Gale was a faithful member of Maize Manor Methodist Church in Columbus, Ohio. “Well done thy good and faithful servant.”
He is survived by his wife, Ramona Remely; his daughters, Ann Remely and Lois Remely his sister, Dorothy Crabtree; and his grandchildren, Braunsen and Victoria Schumm.
A funeral service will be held at The Schoedinger Worthington Chapel, 6699 North High Street, on Friday, April 8, 2016 at 10 a.m. Viewing hours will be held Thursday, April 7, 2016 from 4-7 p.m.
