John Anthony “Tony” Polomik

Polomik

John Anthony “Tony” Polomik, 76, of Whipple, Ohio, left us, unexpectedly, on Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2018. He was born on Aug. 24, 1942 in St. Clairsville, Ohio, to the late John and Mary Helen Lenart Polomik.

Tony was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard and served during the Vietnam War. After his service, he attended Wright State University. Tony worked for the Washington County Department of Human Services from 1974 until his retirement in 2011 and was instrumental in getting the Head Start Program up and running in Washington County. He advocated for the well being of his community by caring strongly for the welfare of children, the elderly and families in need. In his spare time he enjoyed billiards, gardening, fishing, watching sports from the comfort of his easy chair, and spending time with his friends and family.

Though Tony always appeared to have a tough exterior with wit and humor, he was infinitely compassionate and tenderhearted by constantly performing random acts of kindness to those who needed it and to those he loved.

He is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Penelope “Penny” Hundley Polomik, whom he married on March 29, 1969; three children, Matthew Polomik of Columbus; Anthony Polomik (Elizabeth) of Raleigh, N.C. and Kelda Polomik-Tene (Ghislain) of Denver, Colo.; five grandchildren, Kristen Sharrock (Stephen). Alicia McCarthy (George), Jonah Polomik, Erin Polomik and Evie Polomik; five great grandchildren, Finneas, Lily, Rosalie, James, and one on the way. He is also survived by his siblings Richard Polomik, Kathleen Polomik-Hinkle (Dennis) and their children Sarah and Mary, as well as other extended family.

Viewing will be held from 4 – 8 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 23, 2018 at Hadley Funeral Home Reno Chapel, 1021 Pike St., Marietta, OH 45750. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Online condolences may be made at www.hadleyfh.com.
