Charles Edward Sowers, 65, Whipple, passed away at home Wednesday, December 23, 2020, after complications from pancreatic cancer.

Charles, known to everyone as Chuck, was an entrepreneur, activist, adventurer, artisan and musician who pursued many passions and opportunities throughout his life, notable among them were his Marietta-based store, Salem Candles, where offerings included his own handmade candles, and his tenures as mayor of Lower Salem, OH, in the second half of the 1990s and as volunteer firefighter for Carova Beach Volunteer Fire and Rescue on the Outer Banks of North Carolina.

Chuck is preceded in death by his mother Mary Helen Sowers, his father Thomas Benjamin Sowers, Jr. and his brother Thomas Benjamin Sowers III, and is survived by his wife Jessica, his children Kelly and Toby, his sisters Gayle, Margaret, Kyle and Jody, his grandchildren, Charlie, Olivia, Anna and Joni, and countless close friends, including his best friend for decades, Ronda Rublee.

A memorial service will be held at a location, date and time to be determined next year after concerns of the pandemic have subsided.
