Teressa “Terry” Janet Mixer Hamilton

Teressa "Terry" Janet Mixer Hamilton, 68, of Belpre, Ohio, unexpectedly passed away April 23, 2021, at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, surrounded by her family.

Born on June 4, 1952, to Edward and Emma Julia "Judy" Mixer in Parkersburg, West Virginia, she grew up on Hill Street Sunrise Addition forming many fond memories with her neighbors. She attended Core Road School, Madison Elementary, Hamilton Junior High, and graduated from PHS in 1970. At every stop along the way, she was frequently active in clubs and activities, and made many lifelong friends. Terry attended Ohio University and graduated summa cum laude in 1974. She later earned her Masters degree from Marietta College where she once again graduated summa cum laude.

Terry began her lifelong passion for teaching in 1974 at Bartlett Elementary. Her career spanned over four decades until 2019, where she retired after her 45th year in education. The vast majority of her career was spent in the Warren Local School District at Bartlett Elementary where she taught special education and Little Hocking Elementary as a reading specialist. She was the type of teacher that changed lives. Her students described her as patient, kind, and caring. She was always her students' biggest fan, cheering them along throughout their lives. At the conclusion of her career, her impact was felt by thousands of students, families, and community members.

While her professional passion was teaching, her true life passion and greatest accomplishment was her family. She married Stuart "Stu" Hamilton in 1971, and had three children: Kyle, Nick, and Ashley. She was an ever-present mother. She enjoyed being behind the lens of a camera taking photos and capturing memories. Perhaps, though, her favorite role was being "Mimi" for Braeden, Lillie, and Luke, her three grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband Stuart Hamilton, her three children Kyle Hamilton, Nick Hamilton, and Ashley Williamson (Peter), her sister Joyce Caputo (Amico), and her three grandchildren Braeden and Lillie Hamilton, and Luke Williamson. She was preceded in death by her parents Edward and Judy Mixer. Just this April, she humbly shared with her daughter Ashley that, prior to her passing, "I just hope that I'm remembered as someone who made a positive impact on the lives of others." There is little doubt that all of the souls she touched were changed for the better.

Funeral services will be Friday, April 30, 2021, 1:00 pm at the Leavitt Funeral Home Belpre, with Pastor Dave Hubbard officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.LeavittFuneralHome.com.
