Janice Kay Burchett (Weddle)

Janice Kay Burchett (Weddle), 73, passed away peacefully the morning of December 21, 2021, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Janice was born on March 18, 1948, in Graysville, Ohio to proud parents, Paul and Evelyn Weddle. Janice was raised on a farm in Graysville, where she spent her early years helping to farm the land, care for animals and tend to the gardens. In later years, she would often reference milking cows with an eye roll and smirk, saying “milking cows was the worst!”

Upon graduating high school in 1966, Janice moved to Barnesville, Ohio, where she began to work for Ohio Bell. She transferred to Marietta, Ohio, in 1967 where she would become a career-long lineman for the Ohio Bell. It was Marietta where she would make her long-term home upon marrying Kenny Bigley with whom she had her son Jason Bigley in 1976.

Janice was a kind and thoughtful woman who was always thinking of others, often making amazing chicken salad and Chex mix to bring to others in time of need. She could put together flower arrangements better than Martha Stewart and never crossed a wrinkle she couldn’t out iron. Janice was a member of the First Congregational Church, where she was frequently volunteering her time. Despite battling illnesses of breast cancer and brain aneurysms in her 40’s and 50’s, Janice never let that stop her from missing a community event, her son’s chef appearances or when her granddaughter was showing sheep and cows in the county fair. Janice loved shopping and creating gifts for others, decorating beautiful rooms in her home and in the homes of others, and never turned down a single tomato in her life.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents Paul and Evelyn Weddle. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Jason and Emily Bigley, granddaughter, Kesselyn Bigley, sister and brother-in-law, Joice and Terry Hupp, sister and brother-in-law, Joanne Salge and Allan McFadzean, nieces Abby Davis, Ashley Kohl and Lesley Martinez, and nephew Paul Salge, along with many other family members and friends.

A celebration of Janice’s life is to be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in Janice’s honor to Memorial Health Foundation- Cancer Center Breast Health Fund at https://foundation.mhsystem.org/ or by mail to Memorial Health Foundation, P.O.
