Barbara L. Wolf Benson, 72, of New Matamoras, OH, went to be with the Lord on September 9, 2023.

She was born December 22, 1950 in Johnstown, PA, to the late Laurence and Kathryn (Gahagan) Wolf. She was preceded in death by brother, R. William Wolf, mother-in-law Phyllis Benson, father-in-law Harmon Benson, brothers-in-law Jeffrey Benson and Larry Wendel, and sister-in-law Mary Benson. Her loving husband of 40 years, Michael Benson, survives her. She is also survived by her brother Fredrick (Joann) Wolf, sisters Nancy (Mark) Good and Lois Wendel, sister-in-law Carol Benson Teer, and brother- in-law Gregory (Chris) Benson. Her nieces and nephews knew her lovingly as “Aunt B”.

In 1968, Barbara won the 3rd Place Pennsylvania State Medal for discus representing Richland High School. She studied Special Education at Salem College, Salem, WV, along with Physical Education and Art. She went on to pursue a career as an educator at the Colin Anderson Center in St. Marys, WV and the Greater Johnstown Area Vocational and Technology Center, Johnstown, PA. The majority of her teaching days were spent at Newport Elementary for Frontier Local Schools until retirement in 2003.

Barbara enjoyed gardening and canning the fruits of her labor on “Mike’s family farm”. She was a nature lover and was very artistic. She enjoyed sewing, painting, wood-working and other various arts and crafts. She had numerous pets over the years and she loved them and cared for them tirelessly.

Her kindness and care to others in times of need will never be forgotten by her family and friends. She was always there for those she loved. At her request, there will be no funeral service.
