Richard "Dick" B. Hanf, 76, of Marietta, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, June 16.
Dick was born on July 1, 1947, and grew up in Hawley, Pennsylvania, where he graduated from Wallenpaupack High School. He earned an accounting degree from Shippensburg University and built a successful career with Union Carbide, Amoco, BP, and Solvay.
A proud U.S. Navy veteran, Dick's call to service extended across the Marietta community he held dear. He was a founding member of the Rotary Club of Marietta-Morning and served as club treasurer for many years. Rotary International honored him with the Avenues of Service Award, and he was recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow.
Dick was a loving husband and father who supported his children's interests as a volunteer for the MHS Band Boosters, the MHS Crew team, and the Marietta Bantam Baseball League. He also volunteered with Washington County Harvest of Hope and was a member of First Lutheran Church in Parkersburg, West Virginia.
Dick enjoyed getting his hands dirty growing flowers and vegetables and sharing his harvest with others. He believed in one kind of cake: chocolate.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Gladys Hanf, and his brother John. He is survived by Pat Hanf, his beloved wife of 52 years; daughter Susan of Chicago; son Rick of Houston; brother Bob of Hawley; sister Elizabeth (Sean) Smith of Tyler Hill, Pennsylvania; and sister Vera (Graham) Byng of Port Orchard, Washington.
A memorial service will be held 1:00 PM Sunday, June 23, 2024, at the First Lutheran Church, 1701 19th Street, Parkersburg, West Virginia with Rev. Ian B. Reid officiating. There will be a memorial visitation held from 3-5 PM Saturday, June 22, 2024 at Hadley Funeral Home Reno Chapel, 1021 Pike Street, Marietta, Ohio. Dress will be casual attire at both events.
