Ruth E. Cunningham Matheny, 102, long-time resident of New Matamoras, passed away at 1:55am, Friday, June 12, 2024 at Muskingum Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born on December 19, 1921 near New Matamoras to Claude H. Cunningham and Kathryn M. Bradford Cunningham. Ruth enjoyed quilting, flower gardening, displaying her glassware and her many cats. She graduated from Stover High School, Class of 1939.
On June 4, 1944, she married Ralph E. Matheny, Sr., who preceded her in death on February 23, 2002. She is survived by her son Ralph E. Matheny, Jr. of Marietta, grandchildren Maria K. Matheny of Zanesville and Kenley L. Matheny of Tampa, FL, a niece and a nephew.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother J. Fred Cunningham.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday (July 16) at 11:00 am at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with burial following in New Matamoras Cemetery. Family will greet friends before the service from 9 until 11. Messages of sympathy may be sent at www.Lankfordfh.com.
