Rebecca “Becky” McMains Merka Holdren

Rebecca "Becky" McMains Merka Holdren, 71, succumbed to complications from early-onset Alzheimer's Disease on August 28, 2024, at Camden Clark/WVU Hospital in Parkersburg, WV. She was the daughter of Ray E. and Kathryn Fulton McMains, late of Fleming, OH.

Becky was a dear wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was a graduate of Columbus College of Art and Design, and was an accomplished painter. She later moved to Wharton, Texas, where she worked as a graphic designer, married, and had three children; Lauren Merka (Mark Short) of Seattle, WA, Kathryn Granstaff (David) of Poolville, TX, and Andrew Merka (Santana), Jacksonville, FL.

After her marriage to Richard (they had been high school sweethearts), they remained in Texas until 2020 when they returned home to Little Hocking. Becky was a resident of Elison Memory Care where she received excellent care.

She is survived by her husband, Richard; sisters Lynn Lowe (Charles) of Marietta, and Rae Ward (Gary) of Fleming; brother Greg McMains (Susan) of Fairlawn, OH; her three children, their father, Michael Merka. She also leaves behind one granddaughter and four grandsons: Remington and Colt Granstaff; and Collin, Christian, and Austin Short; eight nieces and nephews; and in-laws Larry and Sheryl Holdren of Hilton Head Island, SC.

Becky was a member of the Barlow Community Methodist Church; her ashes will be interred at the Barlow Central Cemetery. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 3pm September 29th at Leavitt Funeral Services, 801 Victor Street, Belpre, OH.
